Radio
Holl & Rush Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Begin the day
With a friendly voice
A companion, unobtrusive
Plays that song that's so elusive
And the magic music makes your morning mood

Off on your way
Hit the open road
There is magic at your fingers
For the spirit ever lingers
Undemanding contact
In your happy solitude

Invisible airwaves
Crackle with life
Bright antennae bristle
With the energy
Emotional feedback
On a timeless wavelength
Bearing a gift beyond price
Almost free

All this machinery
Making modern music
Can still be open-hearted
Not so coldly charted
It's really just a question
Of your honesty, yeah, your honesty

One likes to believe
In the freedom of music
But glittering prizes
And endless compromises
Shatter the illusion
Of integrity, yeah

Invisible airwaves
Crackle with life
Bright antennae bristle
With the energy
Emotional feedback
On a timeless wavelength
Bearing a gift beyond price
Almost free

For the words of the prophets
Were written on the studio wall
Concert hall

And echoes with the sound of salesmen
Of salesmen, of salesmen

Overall Meaning

The above lyrics are from the song "The Spirit of Radio" by Rush. The song takes its name from a famous Canadian radio station's tagline, which goes "the spirit of radio". The lyrics describe the power of music and the radio in our lives. The song begins by talking about starting the day with a friendly voice and music that puts one in a good mood. The music is so magical that it can lift one's spirits and make the day better.

The second verse talks about hitting the open road with music that is ever-present and serves as undemanding contact in our happy solitude. The song mentions invisible airwaves that crackle with life and bright antennae bristling with energy. These symbols illustrate how music transcends borders and reaches out to people all over the world.

The chorus describes how music can be open-hearted and how integrity can be maintained in modern music. The song goes on to talk about how music can be free, bearing a gift beyond price, almost always. The last line of the chorus is a reference to how music can be compromised by those pursuing glittering prizes, perhaps referring to the music industry's business side.

@FlinnHasslich

This is the best track of the sampler for me, I'm loving the vibe of the build-up, reminds me a bit of Buddha, their collab with Tom & Jame. And that drop is completely groovy, and very fresh. No, it's clearly amazing !! <3

This melody, combined with the track is so creative, I think it deserved more than a sampler. Holl&Rush know how to put emotion in break melodies, they do it every time. Huge respect for these 2 guys.
