Repetition
Hollow Tides Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I was too young to make stupid decisions
Maybe things would get better if
We invested hope in repetition
Drive the stake
Hold your weight
How can you conquer tomorrow
Keep up the pace
You think I don't know
I'm holding on but
Slowly letting go
You think I don't see
But everything you omit
Stand so clear to me
You keep slipping
You think I don't see
You've stood in the way
Of who I want to be
This solid line that I draw
This will never mean nothing at all
Trivial thoughts proved through and through
But everything kept leading me back to you
This can't be an exit or the last thing I do
Drive the stake
Hold your weight
How can I conquer tomorrow if
I can't even take today?
The song "Repetition" by Hollow Tides is a reflection on the power of habits, both good and bad. The first verse suggests that perhaps life was better before we were old enough to make our own decisions, implying a sense of regret or frustration with some of the choices the songwriter has made. However, rather than dwelling on the past, the song suggests that the key to improving one's life is to focus on creating and maintaining positive habits. By investing in repetition, we can improve ourselves and our lives.
The chorus repeats the phrase "drive the stake, hold your weight", which could be interpreted as a call to action – a reminder to take responsibility for one's own challenges and work towards overcoming them. The lyrics also suggest a sense of urgency – "how can you conquer tomorrow if you can't even take today?" – emphasizing the importance of making changes and taking steps towards progress.
The second verse focuses on a relationship, where one person is holding onto something that the other is letting go of. The repeated line "you think I don't see" implies a sense of frustration or disappointment with the other person's actions or lack thereof, and a desire for honesty and transparency.
In summary, "Repetition" by Hollow Tides is a deeply introspective song that explores the power of repetition in our lives, both its potential for positive change and its dangers when we become stuck in negative patterns. It is a call to action, encouraging listeners to take responsibility for their lives and work towards progress.

The instrumentals and group shouts are great! But the vocal style doesn't quite fit with the group shout style, and it seems a little weird in contrast. Good song though!
