silhouette
Holter Julia Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I go out to find
The one with whom I've seen
All hour's moons
Once the curtains lifted
And he said "I will swim to you"

Language is such a play
He called his exit, but his eyes are irresolute
What pasts still sit today?
I feel I'm walking around in blue

He can hear me sing
He can hear me sing
Though he is far
I'll never lose sight of him

He turned to me then looked away
A silhouette
A silhouette
Still returns to me

I'll hand him his coat
It's exactly where he left it long ago
We'll fall all over floorboards
I lose my breath just envisioning the scene
Mysteries that wake up late, the table's set
And the painting of his face
No time to hesitate
I cede all my love and play your abandoned fool

Though he is far
I'll never lose

He turned to me
He turned to me and looked away

A silhouette
A silhouette returns to me
A silhouette

A silhouette
A silhouette returns to me
A silhouette

A silhouette returns to me

Overall Meaning

"Silhouette" by Holter Julia is a song that talks about the singer's quest for a special person in her life. In the opening lines of the song, she talks about searching for someone with whom she has shared some of the most precious moments of her life under the light of the moon. The curtains lifted to reveal this special person, and he promised to go to her irrespective of the distance.

The singer also talks about how language can play many tricks on us, and how her special someone left without a word despite having an irresolute look in his eyes. She wonders about the past that still haunts her today as she wanders around feeling blue. However, she has hope because she knows that this special person can still hear her sing even though he is far away, and she will never lose sight of him.

The final part of the song is about the singer's longing for her special someone. She talks about envisioning a scene where he comes back to her, she hands him his coat, and they fall all over the floorboards. The mysteries of life will wake up late and the table will be set, welcoming him. She is willing to cede all her love to him and play the fool for him.

Thank you so much! :)

@hecklerspray

Brian Wilson would be proud of how this song has been arranged. It’s real genius. I’d love to forensically explore how it was put together. Netflix should commission a 10-part series on it.

Kudos Julia!

1:23-1:53 easily my favorite part of the whole album, it causes such a massive swell in my chest every time I hear it

@PixieSpright

I was waiting for someone to point to exactly this time stamp! Everyone here seems to prefer the ending, but these 30 seconds are sublime.

@hecklerspray

Indeed. Also, your avatar is the best thing on YouTube.

This is what great music does. It has lovely little 'bits' and each person hears it differently. Love it.
