The original lineup was notable for having three guitars and no bass player, creating a distinctive, layered sound. Kimble Rendall left in 1982 before the release of their first single, Leilani, and went on to become a noted music video director. He was effectively replaced by bassist Clyde Bramley. Radalj was not happy with Rendall's departure or Faulkner's increasing influence, and left the band himself, to be replaced by one-time Fun Things guitarist Brad Shepherd. This line-up released the band's break-through first album, Stoneage Romeos, in 1984.
In 1998, the band officially split but reformed for occasional concerts in subsequent years. A full-fledged reunion came in 2004, when they released Mach Schau and began touring again. The band received another boost when Come Anytime (from 1989's Magnum Cum Louder) was used as the theme song to the Australian TV show Thank God You're Here.

A Hard Day's Night
Hoodoo Gurus Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's been a hard day's night, I should be sleeping like a log
But when I get home to you I find the things that you do
Will make me feel alright
You know I work all day to get you money to buy you things
And it's worth it just to hear you say you're going to give me everything
So why on earth should I moan, 'cause when I get you alone
When I'm home everything seems to be right
When I'm home feeling you holding me tight, tight
It's been a hard day's night, and I been working like a dog
It's been a hard day's night, I should be sleeping like a log
But when I get home to you I find the things that you do
Will make me feel alright, ow
So why on earth should I moan, 'cause when I get you alone
You know I feel OK
When I'm home everything seems to be right
When I'm home feeling you holding me tight, tight
It's been a hard day's night, and I been working like a dog
It's been a hard day's night, I should be sleeping like a log
But when I get home to you I find the things that you do
Will make me feel alright
You know I feel alright
You know I feel alright
Hoodoo Gurus's A Hard Day's Night is a fast-paced, upbeat song about a man who has had a hard day at work, and how coming home to his partner makes everything seem alright. The first verse sets the scene, with the singer admitting that he has been working like a dog and should be sleeping like a log, but that when he gets home to his partner, the things they do make him feel alright. The chorus reaffirms this sentiment, with the repeated refrain of "It's been a hard day's night, and I been working like a dog, it's been a hard day's night, I should be sleeping like a log, but when I get home to you I find the things that you do will make me feel alright". The second verse explores how the singer works hard all day to provide for his partner, but this feels worth it when he hears her say that she will give him everything. The chorus repeats twice more, with the final line of the song being "you know I feel alright", hammering home the message that coming home to his partner makes everything okay again.
The song, released in 1984, has been interpreted in a number of ways, with some seeing it as a commentary on the exhausting, nine-to-five work culture prevalent in the UK during the time the song was originally released. Others interpret it as a love song, with the singer expressing his love and gratitude for his partner. The song has been covered by a number of other artists over the years, including The Beatles, who have a song of the same name, though this song is not related to the Hoodoo Gurus track. The Hoodoo Gurus version of the song was a major hit in Australia and helped the band gain international attention.
