1. Horsehead were a hard-rock band from Melbourne, Australia, who released three full-length albums. They supported Metallica, Guns n Roses and Live on their respective Australian tours. A prolific live band, their popularity peaked with between the years 1998 and 2000 when influential radio station Triple J picked up several tracks from their "Goodbye Mothership" album for high rotation, however the band's acclaim never transfered into record sales. Rumours of a reformation in 2011 are gathering momentum.
2. Horsehead is an American band that's steeped in the country and soul sounds of the south. Forming in 2005, Horsehead has released two full-length albums (Record Of The Year, Welcome To...) to international critical acclaim with a new album to be released in April of 2010. Real for real. Hypnotising goats.
3. A breakcore act from the Netherlands.
Emerging from the armpit of Geldermalsen, (the Netherlands), Horsehead ripped his way into the Breakcore scene on the third of October 2008. The person behind Horsehead, Bas Zijlstra, was having fun experimenting with fast paced rattling breakcore with a mellow, crunked-up feel to it. The name Horsehead comes from the old-skool game Zelda II, the name is just pure nostalgia.
As far as the music goes, Horsehead creates Breakcore with gabber influences and has some jungle touch to it. And as Bas claims, a nice trippy ring to it: “I also like to put a trippy edge to my music, especially the breakcore I make, makes me happy and stuff.” Think in the vains of Venetian Snares meets Boards of Canada meets some metal-ish brutality.
