Flower That Sears In Silence
How Like a Winter Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In this smile
You'll see my suffering
In this tears, my cruelty
My majesty
A flower that sears in silence
For whom Lord loves
Vanish
Too soon

"A flame that still burns
Those candles that don't waste
Just know that anything is dark
Nothing is darker than dark
Stop to seek me!" (Stop to haunt me)

Will they fill with wine our empty veins?
Will we paint with silver our fragile white skins?
And we'll die to be born again together, my love
Or my chant will be left without rhyme

"Please, my love, find a place to hide
Far from me and far from the light"

Now sleep, sleep

And I will too
Anyway, anywhere
Immortality
Laughter and distress and wrath
In this years my agony

The sympathy still torments me
My pain will live in your own death

Overall Meaning

The song "A Flower that Sears in Silence" by How Like A Winter is a melancholic, introspective composition that depicts the internal struggles of a person who suffers in silence. The opening lines of the song indicate the character's suffering and cruelty, which may be interpreted as a form of self-abuse or a way of punishing themselves for their perceived faults. In this context, the flower that sears in silence might represent the person's hidden sorrow, which slowly destroys them from the inside.

As the song progresses, the character seems to be torn between the desire for love and the fear of losing it. The lines "For whom Lord loves, vanish too soon" suggest that the character has lost someone they loved deeply, and the pain of that loss still haunts them. The following lines "Will they fill with wine our empty veins?/ Will we paint with silver our fragile white skins?" are ambiguous, but they may express the character's longing for a passionate, intense relationship that would make them feel alive and help them forget their pain.

Towards the end of the song, the character seems to resign themselves to their fate and suggests that they will join their loved one in death. The final lines "My pain will live in your death" may be interpreted as a tribute to the enduring power of love and the idea that the memory of the loved one will keep the character alive even after their physical death.
