His final solo album "The Vision" was released in 1985 and produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis.
In 1986 he recorded a duet called "Perfect Timing" with Donna Allen.

'Round midnight, midnight
I do pretty well, till after sundown
Suppertime I'm feelin' sad
But it really gets bad
'Round midnight
Memories always start 'round midnight
When my heart is still with you
And ol' midnight knows it, too
When a quarrel we had needs mending
Does it mean that our love is ending
Darlin' I need you, lately I find
You're out of my heart
And I'm out of my mind
Let our hearts take wings'
'Round midnight, midnight
Let the angels sing
For your returning
Till our love is safe and sound
And old midnight comes around
Feelin' sad
Really gets bad
Round, Round, Round Midnight
The song 'Round Midnight by Howard Johnson & Gravity is a heartfelt ballad that speaks about the emotions of love, memory, and longing that arise around midnight. The lyrics suggest that the singer is feeling sad, particularly during suppertime, and his memories of love always begin around midnight. The midnight hour symbolizes the time when the singer is at his most vulnerable, as his thoughts center around his lost love.
The lyrics further suggest that the singer is pained by the thought of whether a previous quarrel signifies the end of the relationship. The eminence of midnight brings with it a sense of darkness and mystery, which is echoed in the restless and plaintive quality of the singer's voice. The song concludes with a hopeful tone, suggesting that if the singer's love returns, their hearts would "take wings" and the "angels would sing," ensuring that their love is safe and sound.
Overall, the song is a poignant and moving tribute to the power of love and memory, and the emotions that are stirred around midnight.
