A vision of Aragorn's death. Aragorn remembers. He and Arwen discuss the path he must take... and her place in it.

Ú i vethed...
(This is not the end...)
nâ i onnad.
(It is the beginning.)
Si boe ú-dhanna.
(You cannot falter.)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Howard Shore feat. Isabel Bayrakdarian's song Evenstar are a conversation between Aragorn and Arwen about the path that Aragorn must take and Arwen's place in it. These lyrics are in the Sindarin language, the fictional language used by the Elves in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth universe. The lyrics start with "Ú i vethed" which means "This is not the end" and "nâ i onnad" which means "It is the beginning". This implies that although Aragorn may face death, it is not the end of his story or his legacy. Arwen encourages him to keep going, not to falter, and if he trusts anything, it should be nothing else but his destiny.

The lyrics also mention "estelio han" which means "trust this" and is repeated several times. This is a reference to the name Aragorn takes on, Estel, which means hope. The repetition of the phrase is a reminder to Aragorn to trust in his hope and his path. The lyrics end with "estelio han, estelio veleth" which means "trust this, trust love". This is a reference to Arwen, who represents Aragorn's love and reminds him that love and hope are what will guide him towards his destiny.

Overall, these lyrics are a powerful reminder to trust in oneself, in one's destiny, and in the power of love along the way.

This song...I have no words to describe it except that it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. It really makes you feel Arwen's love for Aragorn and the sadness that comes with knowing she'll outlive him

Howard Shore really didn’t have to make the scores to this films as beautifully life altering as he did. The films would have been amazing anyway. But Shore’s scores are one of the reasons why this trilogy will live eternally through the ages.
