From a first single in 1979, the group successfully combined a pop rock and power pop (and sometimes, a blues rock) influenced backing with harmony side-vocals and Lewis' strident voice, and the band had numerous hit songs during the 1980s and early 1990s. These include "The Power of Love" and "Back in Time" (both of which were featured in the film "Back to the Future"), "I Want a New Drug", "Doin' It All (For My Baby)", "Do You Believe in Love?" "Hip to Be Square", "Stuck With You", and "Jacob's Ladder". Huey Lewis shared three Grammy awards, an American Music Award, and a People's Choice Award along with several artists for his role singing the 1985 charity song "We Are the World" as well.

Just the One
Huey Lewis & The News Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To find someone to be mine
I never thought, you'd come along
Now that you're here, all my worries are gone
Ohh
Sweet you
Sweet you
You're just the one I've been looking for
You're just the one I've been looking for
I didn't know how long it would take
But good things come to those who wait
I can't ask for anything more
You're everything I've been looking for
Sweet you
Sweet you
Nobody, nobody, nobody will ever do
You're just the one I've been looking for
You're just the one I've been looking for
Nights were dark, the days gotten longer
My mind was weak but my heart stayed strong
Then you came along and rescued me
Please don't you ever, set me free
Oh no
Ohh
Sweet you
Sweet you
All of my dreams have all come true, yeah
You're just the one I've been looking for, baby
You're just the one I've been looking for
I've been looking - you're the one
I searched all day Monday, you're the one
And I couldn't find'ya, you're the one
I searched all day Tuesday, you're the one
And I couldn't find'ya , you're the one
Early Wednesday morning, you're the one
You know I found you, you're the one
And when I found you, you're the one
I threw my arms around you, you're the one
I said baby I'm glad, you're the one
The song "Just the One" by Huey Lewis & The News is a joyful tribute to finding true love after a long search. The lyrics depict the singer's journey of looking for a partner to be with, and how their life was empty before they found them. The song celebrates the joy of finding that special someone and how they complete their life. The opening lyrics, "I've been searching for a long time, to find someone to be mine" describes the struggle of loneliness and how the search for love can be a difficult journey. However, the refrain, "You're just the one I've been looking for," expresses the singer's relief and excitement at finally finding the love of their life.
The open declaration of "Sweet you, sweet you" serves as a direct address to the person in question for whom these beautiful lyrics have been written. The song celebrates the feeling of euphoria, and highlights the emotion of the singer who expresses gratitude to have found his soulmate with lyrics such as "all of my dreams have all come true." Overall, the song is a beautiful tribute to the power of love and an excellent representation of Huey Lewis & The News's blend of rock and pop music.
