Understand
Humble Braggers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But I know that won’t make them disappear
And I hope that you can understand
And I know you just want to help
But that doesn’t mean I can fix myself
I want to
I need to
When it shows
I chase it
It’s the only thing I can’t ignore
When it grows
I face it
And it shakes me down to the core
And I know that I must change
These thoughts that make me feel drained
I feel I’ve come too far
I feel I’ve come too far
But I feel like nothing helps
Laying on the couch all by myself
And I hope this fades from me soon
I’m waiting on time to come back to you
(chorus)
Maybe I’ll wait until
It falls into place
Maybe I’ll wait until
It’s another day
Maybe I’ll wait until
It falls into place
Maybe I’ll wait until
It’s another day
In the song "Understand" by Humble Braggers, the lyrics speak to the vulnerability and struggles of the singer. The opening lines express a desire to share their fears with someone, hoping for understanding and support. However, the singer recognizes that sharing their fears alone won't make them disappear, indicating a recognition that personal growth and overcoming these fears requires more internal work.
The next lines acknowledge that while the person they are confiding in may want to help, ultimately, the singer realizes that they are the only one who can "fix" themselves. This suggests a sense of self-reliance and a recognition that relying solely on others for their own well-being is not sufficient. The repetition of "I want to, I need to" reinforces this determination to take charge of their own journey.
The following lines convey the singer's struggle with a recurring issue or problem. They acknowledge that when this issue resurfaces, they are compelled to pursue it, as if it is the only thing they cannot ignore. As it grows, it shakes them to their core, emphasizing the profound impact it has on their emotional state.
However, despite recognizing the need for change and a different mindset, the singer shares their frustration that nothing seems to help. The image of lying on a couch by themselves conveys a sense of isolation and helplessness. They express hope for a fading of their troubles and a longing for time to bring them a sense of solace.
The chorus suggests a hesitation to take action until things naturally fall into place or until another day comes. This could indicate a fear of making wrong decisions or a lack of confidence in their ability to make significant changes in their current state.
Overall, the lyrics capture the internal struggles, yearnings for understanding, and self-doubt experienced by the singer, reflecting the complexity of navigating personal growth and mental well-being.
