Love All Over Again
Hunters & Collectors Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Party's over - the dawn is red
Search light swingin' way overhead
I believe I'm lookin' for love all over again
Which way danger - which way home
Wander in the wasteland - through the unknown
Lookin' for love all over again

Somebody said - "Look around and you will find
Wake up and open your mind
Leave your despair behind
Ya lookin' for love all over again"

Take a look into the rising sun
Tomorrow has finally come
Nothing to lose but love all over again
There is no heaven there is no hell
Here I am in the here and now
On my hands and knees all over again

All the way home - the end has never been so near
Love without favour or fear
You're long gone but I'm still here
For love all over again

I made a promise I just could not keep
Visions of freedom were lurkin' in my sleep
Day in day out I sowed the seed
But I left behind all the dreams I did not need

Mother knows everything's gonna be alright
Those dreams of hope, they grow like weeds
All through the night

Found myself now I'm coming down
I've been crawlin' all over this town
Around and around and around all over again

Can't you feel the wind?
The end has never been so near
Love without favour or fear
Your love gone but I'm still here for love

Somebody said - "Look around and you will find
Wake up and open your mind

Leave your despair behind
Ya lookin' for love all over again"

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Hunters & Collectors' song "Love All Over Again" embody an introspective journey of self-discovery and a search for love. The song begins with the singer waking up to the reality of a new day, symbolized by the dawn in red and a searchlight swinging way overhead. The key line of the song, "I believe I'm looking for love all over again," signifies a renewed quest for love, which is the central theme of the song.

The following lines describe the uncertainty and confusion that come with embarking on a journey of self-discovery. The singer is unsure which way to turn or where to go, and the unknown wasteland looms ahead. However, somebody offers him an encouraging message to "look around and you will find" and to "leave your despair behind" while searching for love.

With the rising sun, the singer realizes that tomorrow has finally come, and there is nothing to lose but love all over again. The mention of there being no heaven or hell represents the acceptance of one's present reality, here and now. The image of being down on hands and knees suggests humility and vulnerability, a willingness to go through the process of growth and self-reflection. The song ends on a positive note, with the singer coming down and having found himself, despite crawling all over the town.

As an American I find this stuff really fascinating, especially the way it mixes forms of western music across ethnic and geographical barriers,I don't think any us rock combines AOR,Southern Rock,Countrt Music,Reggae,Soul Music,Heartland Rock, and elements from New Wave or Prog like this stuff does so casually, plus the elements from British and European Art Rock very casually dispersed with Country to begin with. Hope that's not too pretentious.

This was my first husband and my song. We saw Hunters and Collectors at The Coogee Bay Hotel along with Paul Kelly and The Dots and Do-Re-Mi. What a top line up, typical of the mid 80s! And a brilliant night! Unforgettable!
