This Morning
Hunters Collectors Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know, I know
She's gonna go this morning
No sun will shine today
And this body's feeling strained and dispossessed
Full of fear and trembling for her,
Her last words to go away, yeah...
But blind faith's trying to tell me it isn't over
Tell me it do not have to be
And storm water's weeping on my bedroom window
Blow me up and throw me up and
Please...come on and please me
Tease...come on and tease me
Please...come on and please me
Yeah, come on and tease me...
If you say you want me
I won't say no
'Cause nothing's gonna pacify, satisfy
That rattling window
If you say you want me
I won't say no
'Cause nothing's gonna pacify, satisfy

That rattling window
I know, I know
She's gonna go this morning
No sun will shine today
And this body's feeling strained and dispossessed
Full of fear and trembling for her,
Her last words to go away
But blind faith's trying to tell me it isn't over
Tell me it do not have to be
Storm water's weeping on my bedroom window
Throw me up and blow me up and
Please...come on and please me
Tease...come on and tease me
Yeah, please...come on and please me
Yeah, you gotta tease me...
If you say you want me, I won't say no
'Cause nothing's gonna pacify, satisfy

Pacify, satisfy, pacify, satisfy
That rattling window

Overall Meaning

The song "This Morning" by Hunters & Collectors is a heartbreaking and emotional ballad about a man and a woman who are about to part ways. The singer knows that she is going to leave him, and he feels the weight of the impending loss heavily. He describes feeling strained and dispossessed, haunted by fear and trembling. Despite this, he is grasping at straws, hoping that "blind faith" will somehow make things right and convince her to stay.

The song's chorus expresses the singer's desperation to hold onto what he's about to lose. He begs her to please him, to tease him, and to show that she still wants him. He knows that nothing will pacify or satisfy the emptiness that will come when she's gone. The final verses repeat the opening ones, emphasizing the sense of doom and loss that hangs over the song. The "rattling window" symbols the uncertainty and impermanence of life that the characters are facing.

Overall, the song is a deeply poignant and moving expression of love and loss. It captures the desperation that anyone feels when they are about to lose someone they love deeply, and the sense of helplessness that comes with that.

Human Frailty was the best of the Hunters Albums (although I love them all except the last abortion). Sitting home today (alone) with the remainder of cyclone Ossie whipping the trees and flooding the laundry there is no greater piece of music for lost love and a rainy day. It is poetry.

Cheers HenryRide for uploading this so awesome song from the Hunners. You don't by an chance happen to have 'Dog' and 99th Home Position' also off their classic 'Human Frailty' album, if so it would be so greatly appreciated if you uploading them as they are nowhere to be found on U-Toob. Thanks mate, and best wishes from New Zealand :-)
