In The Fire
Hurricane Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All your promises, and empty lies
Have led me to the real you
Every time you tried to take your disguise
You could never see it through

It's time to find your way up
Before we hit the ground, and you
Burn, burn,
You're gonna take your turn
In the fire
Burn, burn,
Will you ever learn
In the fire

I see you're headin' for a breakdown
You got to get to the cure
Heavy metal mental shakedown
You're spinnin' down that's for sure

It's time to find your way out
You're spinning round and round

You really had 'em going this time

Always puttin' on a show
Only problem there's now where to go

Overall Meaning

The song "In The Fire" by Hurricane is a rock ballad that is primarily a warning to someone who has been dishonest and deceitful. From the first verse, it is clear that the singer is addressing someone who has made a lot of promises and told a lot of lies. The singer has finally realized that this person is not who he or she pretended to be and that it is time for them to stop living in disguise. The chorus is a warning that, eventually, this person will have to face the consequences of their actions and "take their turn in the fire". The idea of burning in the flames is a metaphor for the fact that this person will have to pay for their deceit and lies.

The second verse continues the theme of the first as the singer implores the other person to change their ways before it's too late. They are headed for a breakdown and need to get help before they spin out of control. The heavy metal mental shakedown is a metaphor for the turmoil that this person is going through. The chorus repeats again with the warning that this person needs to learn from their mistakes or pay the price. The final verse laments the fact that this person has put on a show for everyone but now has nowhere left to go. The singer implies that the only way out of this mess is for this person to change their ways and come clean.

Overall, the song is essentially a cautionary tale about the price of deceit and the importance of being true to oneself. The singer has seen through the other person's mask and is warning them that they need to change before it's too late. The imagery of burning in the flames is a powerful one that underscores the severity of the situation.

Complete Devastation happening in Hawaii...I pray U.S. Government steps in to help these communities recover and rebuild 😟

@mrmark8603

Biden already declared it a state of emergency.

We still have the issue that five fires irrupt it at about the same time within the same area. How much did arson play into this? The origin of these fires, so many in such a short time is very suspicious.

@elaine8477

Right wing talking point--don't care about fires since arson can exist. And unfortunately there are some dumb people who start fires whether they are arson or having their tailpipe over dry brush for a second. If Hawaii was its more typical lush self, it would be hard for fire to spread.

@@dispensabletrav1614If this was Hawaii island, then possibly. This island is Maui and doesn't currently have a volcano on it.

@JohnGemhunterDX

When I heard the storm was moving to the east in the Pacific I wondered what impact it would have on Hawaii What a horrible thing to witness...Just sayin'

Newton's 3rd law. We've pushed too far and now we're suffering the consequences. I stopped feeling bad a long time ago and accepted we're getting what we deserve.

@mr.pizzamarlon

I hear you but no one deserves this. Especially, the young babies born. We alone cannot fix this but under the rulership of Christ and his 144,000 co-rulers, the earth will be a paradise again after the wicked are gone.

Imagine living in the time where CO2 was much higher? The horror😮

@TheOracleSpirit

@@mr.pizzamarlon I understand what you mean as well, but, in order for us to even begin to start repairing the damage we have caused our world, we have to stop pretending we're the victims. We know better, we've always known better but we allowed ego and hubris to lead us to this point in human history where the earth has no choice but to behave in a way that has been perpetrated actions. We're crying for mercy before even attempting contrition, to use a religious parlance.
