(14) Hush, a supergroup comprised of San Francisco area musicians. One of its participants is Robert Berry.
After high school Robert Berry entered San Jose State University as a music major and again carefully balanced his academic and professional interests. It was around this time that Joe Camarata, a resourceful talent agent at the NBC booking agency, came up with a plan to create a 'local supergroup' by combining members from several recently disbanded outfits. Berry had remained close with drummer Mike Dimock. The agent had a bass player named Gene Perrault and a guitar player named Joey Cannizaro that were interested in joining forces. They met for the first time in Berry's parents' garage where many of his younger bands had practiced. Joe, Gene, Mike and Robert hit it off immediately. What resulted from that meeting came to be known as Hush.
The band put together a showcase for local talent buyers and without even having a full set of material, swept up bookings for over 6 months. After the initial 6 months, Joey decided to leave for his own solo band. But Perrault and Berry had formed a solid musical and personal friendship. Together with Mike Dimock they auditioned guitar players from all around the bay area. But only one stood out from all the rest. He was, at the time, an unknown musician that had never been in a band before. But his personality and playing style was just what Hush was looking for. He played everything from the most complicated progressive pieces to the staight forward rock riffs with ease. With the addition of guitarist Paul Keller, Hush shifted into high gear.

Say A Little Prayer
Hush Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Don't complain a lot, never show a thing
Frosty trees will grab at you until you fall
And dark birds above you will follow you from this day on
But the pain is concealed
There is nothing here to see
Say a little, say a little prayer
Everything you wanted lies right here
And I'll say a little, say a little prayer
I hope some day you'll reach out again
I'll say a little, say a little prayer
Colder, when you turn away
Older, when you face yourself
You cry out loud but you're caught in silence
And echoes fall as an icy rain on your skin
But the pain is concealed
There is nothing here to see
Except for a broken and shattered heart
Don't talk, reveal nothing
The lyrics to Hush's song "Say a Little Prayer" delve into the pain of a person who is hurting and struggling to move on. The first verse advises that one shouldn't talk too much - to reveal as little as possible to others. The idea here is that the person should internalize their feelings and emotions rather than communicating them outwardly. In this way, the hurt individual can conceal the pain they're feeling and move on without having to show the world the turmoil they're experiencing. The lines "Frosty trees will grab at you until you fall, and dark birds above you will follow you from this day on" and "You cry out loud, but you're caught in silence, and echoes fall as an icy rain on your skin" convey the idea that the person's pain and grief is inescapable and will follow them wherever they go. The pain is tragically real and painful.
However, the chorus brings a glimmer of hope in the form of a prayer. The singer hopes the listener will say a little prayer, believing that everything they want is within reach. The second verse further states that turning away from the source of the pain only makes it colder, and that looking inward and facing the pain head-on is how one becomes older and ultimately wiser. In this way, the lyrics encourage the listener to face their issues head-on and say a little prayer for guidance and strength to move forward.
Overall, the lyrics to "Say a Little Prayer" offer a powerful message of hope for anyone struggling with pain and loss. The lines encourage the listener to be strong, to face their struggles head-on, and to reach out for help when they need it most.
