(14) Hush, a supergroup comprised of San Francisco area musicians. One of its participants is Robert Berry.
After high school Robert Berry entered San Jose State University as a music major and again carefully balanced his academic and professional interests. It was around this time that Joe Camarata, a resourceful talent agent at the NBC booking agency, came up with a plan to create a 'local supergroup' by combining members from several recently disbanded outfits. Berry had remained close with drummer Mike Dimock. The agent had a bass player named Gene Perrault and a guitar player named Joey Cannizaro that were interested in joining forces. They met for the first time in Berry's parents' garage where many of his younger bands had practiced. Joe, Gene, Mike and Robert hit it off immediately. What resulted from that meeting came to be known as Hush.
The band put together a showcase for local talent buyers and without even having a full set of material, swept up bookings for over 6 months. After the initial 6 months, Joey decided to leave for his own solo band. But Perrault and Berry had formed a solid musical and personal friendship. Together with Mike Dimock they auditioned guitar players from all around the bay area. But only one stood out from all the rest. He was, at the time, an unknown musician that had never been in a band before. But his personality and playing style was just what Hush was looking for. He played everything from the most complicated progressive pieces to the staight forward rock riffs with ease. With the addition of guitarist Paul Keller, Hush shifted into high gear.

Walking
Hush Lyrics

Like a fool
Heard you moved on, yeah that's cool
I get all my days mixed up now
Better times
In the sun
Distorted moments now gone
I hope it was all worth the pain
Didn't wanna see ya
Livin' in Reseda
Watchin' me chase my dreams and failin' miserably
Still I kind of wanna
Watch it play out, oh
Like a Tom Petty ballad
Bittersweet fall
Walking slow
Like a fool
Heard you moved on, ya that's cool
Didn't wanna see ya
Livin' in Reseda
Watchin' me chase my dreams and failin' miserably
Lost the dark of the night
It was my favorite part, I
Used to stare at the wall
Waiting for you to come through that door
I was selfish, I admit
I put you through some bullshit
But we were such a pair
I shoulda dropped it all and gone anywhere
Didn't wanna see ya
Livin' in Reseda
Watchin' me chase my dreams and failin' miserably
Still I kind of wanna
Watch it play out, oh
Like a Tom Petty ballad
Bittersweet fall
Walking slow
Like a fool
Heard you moved on, ya that's cool
Didn't wanna see ya
Livin' in Reseda
Watchin' me chase my dreams and failin' miserably
In the song "Walking," Hush reflects on a past relationship and the aftermath of it. The lyrics depict a sense of longing and regret, as the singer walks through life slowly, feeling like a fool. They have heard that their former partner has moved on, and while they try to appear unaffected, deep down, they struggle with mixed emotions and a sense of loss.
The line "I get all my days mixed up now" suggests that the singer is still dealing with the aftermath of the breakup. They are caught in a state of confusion and disarray, unable to fully move on. The memories of better times and distorted moments no longer exist, leaving a bittersweet feeling. Despite their pain, there is a hope that all the suffering was worth it, and a fear that their ex-partner might experience their own struggles and pain as well.
The mention of Reseda, a neighborhood in Los Angeles, adds a specific sense of place to the lyrics. It implies that the singer has been observed by their ex-partner, watching them chase their dreams and failing. There is a note of irony in their desire to witness how their story unfolds, almost like watching a tragic ballad in the style of Tom Petty. The singer is aware of their own flaws and the selfishness they exhibited during the relationship. They admit to putting their ex-partner through some difficult times, acknowledging the pain they caused.
Overall, the song "Walking" captures the internal conflict and regrets that arise after a breakup. It explores feelings of vulnerability, the desire to witness the consequences of one's actions, and the slow process of healing.
