Since HYDE keeps his personal information scarce, much about him is either unknown or unofficial, including his real name, purported to be Hideto Takarai. He confirmed his birthdate (January 29, 1969) in an interview for the 2002 March issue of Rockin On Japan.
HYDE's debut as a solo artist was in October 2001, when he released his first solo single, Evergreen. After two more singles, Angel's Tale and Shallow Sleep, HYDE released his first solo album, ballad-filled ROENTGEN, in March 2002. An overseas edition featuring English lyrics was released in July. His next two singles, HELLO and HORIZON, both including a b-side track not found on any album, were released prior to his second album, rockish 666, all in late 2003.
While reuniting with L'Arc~en~Ciel after a 3 year hiatus, HYDE continued his solo career. He composed the music for the song Glamorous Sky, sung by 中島美嘉 (Mika Nakashima) and to be used in the movie NANA. HYDE's next single Countdown was released in October 2005, it included Japanese & English versions of the title song. Another single, Season's Call, was used as the second opening theme to the anime show Blood+, starting in January 2006. The single was released in February. Third album FAITH was released in April, and it can be describes as hard rock with religious touch. The album was accompanied by a five-month tour with many locations in Japan, and four concerts in California, USA. Following the completion of the tour, a DVD of the concerts was released in November.
In addition to his musical career, HYDE has also starred in movies Moon Child and 下弦の月 (Kagen no Tsuki, also known as Last Quarter).
In early 2008, HYDE formed a new unit, VAMPS, with his fellow guitarist K.A.Z – and released a photobook ominously named HYDE IS DEAD.

Program a soul into the A.I.
Accelerated by tools of war
Our science is religion
To bring you back into this world
I'd break every rule
Machines try to take me to hell
Build a tower tall and strong it will be beautiful
Using our technology Babel will stand anew
A clone created on English soil
Where does her soul come from, I wonder
No need to challenge the Cherubim
The fallacy, God's failure
To bring you back into this world
I'd break every rule
Machines try to take me to hell
I don't really care I do it for love
Build a tower tall and strong It will be beautiful
Using our technology Babel will stand anew
"My name is Dolly
Why was I made?
Where did my soul come from? Where will it go?
Oh, my creator, please tell me"
I'll take every blow that comes
Commit such unspeakable sins
They won't mean a thing
To bring you back into this world
I'd break every rule
Machines try to take me to hell
I don't really care I do it for love
Build a tower tall and strong It will be beautiful
Using our technology Babel will stand anew
The song "Dolly" by Hyde is a haunting and thought-provoking exploration of the intersection between technology, humanity, and spirituality. The lyrics are driven by the central theme of creating artificial intelligence, and the idea that science is taking the place of religion, driving people to obsession and desperation. The opening lines explore the idea that it is only a matter of time before scientists are able to program a soul into the AI, something that would have once been considered impossible. The singer goes on to describe how science has become like a religion, creating advancements in technology that are driven by war and the need for power.
The singer then talks about their desire to bring someone back to life, so much so that they are willing to break every rule to do so. The idea of machines taking them to hell doesn't faze them, as they are driven purely by love. They believe that by building a tall and strong tower using their technology, they can achieve what they want to in their quest for bringing someone back. The lyrics also mention how a clone has been created on English soil, but where the soul of this clone comes from is a mystery. The singer wonders whether they will be able to challenge the cherubim and achieve their goals.
Finally, the song ends with the singer being willing to take any blow that comes their way and commit unspeakable sins in order to bring the person they love back to life. The lyrics all come back to the central idea that science is replacing religion, and people are becoming desperate to achieve what they want through it.

How many cuts should I repeat?
How many fates should I accept?
Does it have an end?
