II-J Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Whatever you wanna do in life, you gotta give it your 110%
Cuz 100% will get you there but the 10% will keep you there
Life isn’t fair but we still have to care
When you do that even when you step into the inferno, you won’t burn a hair
This type of thing right here is rare
But someone’s gotta do it and declare
This is a symbol of our independence
A channel to express our deepest emotions
To reflect and release our past demons
Whether thru words, instrumentation, or visualization
And at the same time explore our untapped potentials
This is 2Fire, we appreciate you and your time for tuning in

Stay tuned

The stairs represent a hierarchy.
Here my interpretation:
Added to the concept of the butterfly as that of freedom or free will (which I agree with), the butterfly can also be understood as transformation. Firstly, being a larva, a worm; that, it must be known, there are different knowledges that place the position of man as that of a miserable worm that crawls...
Later, the process of the chrysalis would come: stage in which what is necessary is done to know oneself (allegorically) and use the forces to evolve, and, finally, become a butterfly; that is, to be able to fly free and stop dragging. The butterfly, in essence, is freedom.
In my opinion the butterfly is Kiyotaka. That's why Kei is the only one who could touch her. Because Kei will be the only one who will be able to know the essence of Kiyotaka in its entirety. That knowledge was given by Kiyotaka's own will (there are characters who suspect her abilities, but only Kei will get to know firsthand what she is capable of).
Next, Ryuuen follows.
Before we go any further, we should note that the color of the sky will remain blue during a certain stage of the video; I'll go deeper into it later. We must know that blue is the color of sobriety...
Ryuuen finds herself walking towards perfection, that is, surpassing her limits… Wanting to reach new heights. And he looks slightly sideways, because he is convinced that there is no one more cunning than him. He thinks that in the near future he will humiliate Sakayanagi. It is noteworthy that the butterfly appears behind Ryuuen when he glances sideways. It's not a coincidence if we consider that she represents Ayanokouji (he who is being persecuted as the big X...)
Kushida, on the other hand, is about halfway up the stairs (we already know what that means). Kushida is athletic and a good student, but nothing further. Kushida's position suggests that she is concentrating on herself. She takes a position of hers as a request... To pray that a certain secret does not come to light... A permanent concern of hers...
I agree with the other comment about Sakayanagi positioning herself as the queen looking down on others as something natural to her. After her there are no more steps. However, there is something else... That a certain character knows. Sakayanagi also finds himself turning his back to the sky. Note that Ryuuen and others don't. They are indeed climbing. That is his goal… It seems that Sakayanagi believes that there is no more promotion. And, ignoring that she can't get up because of her inability, she also metaphorically doesn't get up because she believes there is nothing else...
Ichinose is on the stairs with her back to the sky as well; but, unlike Sakayanagi, she does it because she is satisfied with her position… That, we know, will cost her dearly throughout the story…
Now, the sky changes color… The glow has come… Sobriety has gone… We embrace that light…
I agree with the interpretation that was made of Horikita about needing support to exploit her potential, to continue perfecting herself... And why does she look back? Excellent question. Look back because she drags her past; she must get rid of him to look forward...
Hiyori is certainly special. She has considerable skills and enjoys the ride. That represents. Perhaps, her look behind her represents her interest in traveling together with her companions. For example, she after she follows Ibuki's appearance...
I won't elaborate on Ibuki's explanation, which has already been made... It's curious to note that she takes that position when she meets a certain man who exceeded all expectations... (PLUS: Note that the butterfly turns black to show its other side, in addition to descending towards Ibuki. Almost as if expressing the dark or hidden side of a certain person falling on her).
Chabashira knows the nature of that brilliant human. Likewise, knowing Chabashira's actions, Hoshinomiya suspects her. Also, Chabashira looks back… But it seems that she is more that she is stuck in the past than anything else. The readers of the novel know why...
Finally, we come to the most exciting. Karuizawa thinks she's holding the butterfly (freedom; Kiyotaka) in her hands, but, once it's caught in Karuizawa's hands, it can't be stopped: Karuizawa is surprised at this... Also, I think there's something like she (the butterfly) will tell him that she will let him go… That she was going to teach him something… Right there, that is when the only one who no longer climbs appears; the one who stands and looks directly at the sun… Towards knowledge. One who enjoys the existence of the gods. The one who, however, turns around, to (I interpret it that way) guide the one who doesn't even know there is a ladder. The one in her life who was most concerned with avoiding the dark. So much so, that he decided to become a part of it (his performance of her as a selfish girl). In essence, we are witnessing the one who saw the light (perhaps it is the light itself…) guiding the one who it is in the dark.
As a final piece of information, it seems that the sky changed when people who knew something about Kiyotaka's nature emerged. He changed when people emerged who had a certain affinity or closeness with him. Kiyotaka is the one who adds excitement to life… Despite being very cautious and sober; however, I think he's the one who makes things exciting. Hence the change of the sky. Sakayanagi knows this very well. The queen who sits waiting for climbers...

PLUS 2: The flight of the butterfly (Kiyotaka) regarding the characters has to do with how much they know about his true nature.
With Ryuuen the butterfly comes from behind. As if she herself were the one to introduce herself. In fact, it will happen like this.
Kushida is so lost in thought that he doesn't even notice her. She doesn't suspect a thing.
Sakayanagi keeps an eye on her even from the start, reveling in the sight of her (readers know why).
Ichinose looks at the butterfly from the front. She takes her into account on Hoshinomiya's recommendation. But he doesn't focus on her. The butterfly crosses Ichinose's field of vision: she escaped from her field of vision.
Horikita looks at the butterfly and it doesn't go beyond her current field of vision, but stays close to her level. She is only a little further ahead for beating Ryuuen (the butterfly is where Ryuuen is). Horikita knows a little about Ayanokouji's abilities, but mistakenly estimates that he only slightly outclasses her. She doesn't suspect that Ayanokouji can go much further. Because Horikita knows that Ayanokouji beat Ryuuen is that the butterfly is in front of her; but the misconceptions about her partner's abilities and the fact that the butterfly (Ayanakouji) only wants to show her that level for now, is what makes her (the butterfly) stand just a little ahead of her. This is later proven when Horikita asks for an academic test against him saying that he is smart but not a better student than her, so she believes that she can beat him in studies.
With Hiyori the butterfly makes a detour and approaches her open hand. Friendship seems to me that it represents. Hiyori knows that Kiyotaka is competent; but she doesn't know how much.
With Ibuki I already explained the black color of the butterfly. It seems that the reaper has manifested itself.
With Chabashira he went straight to her: they had an encounter. But the butterfly goes on. Chabashira also doesn't realize how far away because she can't imagine it (how far away the abilities are); that represents her gaze, in addition to her chaining with the past.
Finally, the butterfly disappears as Kiyotaka turns. Another point in favor to consider the butterfly as Kiyotaka.

I put the comment here for visibility. Taking into account that it would be impossible to rescue this from the sea of comments. I'm sorry, host. I hope you don't mind. It is necessary to bring this out in the English community (it is already in others). I hope you understand.

AbstractAlloy6

My original interpretation of this ending got taken down along side the video in which I wrote it so i'll put it here in case someone didn't get the chance to see it, a lot of people liked it so i hope other people will too, to also give them another look and view of the ending. I don't remember what I wrote exactly but I'll try to replicate it the best I can:

I think i figured it out.
The stairs represent how much power and hierarchy a character has.
Let me explain.
Ryuuen is near the end, demonstrating that he is one of the most relevant entities in school. His only goal is getting at the top while not looking back, not caring about anyone who is behind him, only the ones that are above him.
Kushida, on the other hand, is near the end thanks to her childish behaviour around everyone, her fake persona making her being cautious and worried to not show who she really is, undecided on what to do, that's why she is looking down.
Sakayanagi is at the top but she is not standing up, either because she can't go beyond of what she's capable of or simply because she just feels comfortable where she is at the moment, watching everyone from above as she just rests.
Ichinose is next in line, she is at the middle thanks to her great influence around everyone while at the same time encouraging others to follow her as she watches and waits for them, not caring about reaching the top first.
Horikita stands close to Ryuuen, showing her great potential she will have while still needing some help to get there, we can see her leaning her hand on the wall as if to represent her need to rely on someone stronger to show her the way up while also looking back for the ones who are behind her, caring about them.
Hiyori is the one that breaks my whole interpretation, while she is a mastermind of her own, I don't really know why she is in that place, maybe someone can help me trying to explain her position.
Ibuki is one step away from the bottom of the stairs, her great physical power allows her to be there but she is not capable to go any further, she doesn´t have the ability to do so.
Chabashira and Hosinomiya sensei are in the middle thanks to the fact that they are former students (and also because they are theachers, obviously).
And finally, Kei Karuizawa, the only one at the bottom which I think is mainly due to her importance and relevance in everyone´s eyes. Everyone sees her as just the selfish and provocative girl, we saw this in the first episode of this season (Also because of what happens to her on the upcoming arcs, but i don´t want to spoil it).
All but one sees Kei as irrelevant.
Kiyotaka is at the top of the stairs, contrary to Sakayanagi, he is standing up. Not looking back to show that he does not care who is behind him. But only when Kei is present, that's when he finally decides to look back, showing the connection the both will have.

As for the butterfly...
I originally thought it represented the freedom and free will that each character has, getting closer but also moving away, only Kei is the one to 'catch' it but when she gets just a hint of 'it' she let's go because she is still afraid of what might happen if she fully embraces it, when the butterfly goes up to kiyotaka it is as if it's showing her the path to 'Freedom'.
That's what i originally interpreted it as, but i saw a lot of other interpretations in which they explain the butterfly as evolution, the evolution that each character will have along the season which i found far better than my interpretation, take whichever one you want, credits goes to the one's that told me about the butterfly meaning.

But that's just my thinking, maybe it's just a normal ending and i'm exaggerating, but what do you guys think?
There were a lot of great interpretations too which, sadly, i can't remember due to those being deleted. if you'd like you can repost them here, i would love to read them again.
Remember, this is just an interpretation, a theory of what the ending may reperesent, it is not the official meaning of it.
Thanks again to all who commented on the previous deleted comment, i was overjoyed to see many people invested in this series as much as I am.

We waited 5 years for this moment to come, lets enjoy it the best we can!!

Sorry if i made some spelling mistakes, English is not my main language.
