End Of The Line
I Object Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

they are waiting in line he says
deteriorating away he says
money flushed by month he says
i won't wait in line he says
they just sit and eat and sit and eat he says
their staring at a wall
guys younger than me he says
they put me away
i'm really alive/ they wait to die

i came here to resist
i'm not waiting in line

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in I Object's song "End Of The Line" speak to the disillusionment and frustration of a person who has become trapped in a system that they do not believe in. The first two lines suggest that there are people waiting in line, deteriorating away. This could be interpreted in a number of ways - perhaps they are waiting in line for a job, or for government assistance, or for some other necessary resource. Whatever the case may be, the singer is critical of the system that requires people to wait in line and deteriorate. He goes on to describe the ways in which money is wasted, and the fact that he refuses to participate in this system. He sees others around him who are content to sit and eat, but he refuses to do so. In the end, he is resolute in his commitment to resist and to assert his own agency.

The song can be seen as a critique of capitalism and the ways in which it often leaves people behind. It suggests that there are many people who are trapped in a cycle of poverty and despair that is perpetuated by the system. At the same time, it presents a vision of resistance and defiance. The singer refuses to go along with the status quo and is determined to make a stand. Ultimately, the song is a call to action, urging listeners to resist the forces that seek to oppress and control them.
