Take Me Away
Ice Cube feat. Butch Cassidy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Sometimes I just get on my knees you know what I mean
And pray to the man with the master plan
[Verse 1: Ice Cube]
Lord have mercy, my people so thirsty
Come feed 'em, either Jesus or Mohammad
All we get is vomit, come like a comet
Only you can do it, I'ma learn from it
Do what I gotta do, try not to plum it
America used to shoot like reptiles
Don't worry tomorrow, let's get this right now
They wanna run us in the ground
Educate yourself, before they dumb you down
Get your money boy, the legal way
Beat 'em with they own bullshit if you may
Now rich white men they got the world fucked up
Why should I give a fuck about a Styrofoam cup
Environmental saying, but if I go green
You know what I mean bitch
[Chorus]
Take me away from these people [Repeat: x4]
[Verse 2: Ice Cube]
Ice Cube for President, let's just do it for the hell of it
See how I run the government
Make money irrelevant
I might tell a chick, it's illegal to resell of it
Secret service don't know where the hell I went
Sorry yall, I had to fuck a super delicate
Dream ticket, Ice Cube and Obama
American dream, Ice Cube and yo mama
The Terminator, are you Sarah Conner?
Arnold Schwarzenegger, can kill who he wanna
In California, they strap you to a jury
And murder your ass, in front of your attorney
Do you really wanna take this journey?
And scared of none of yall, motherfuckers like Bernie
Mad step back, I got the mac 11
Unlike Obama, I'ma have to back my Reverend
[Chorus]
[Verse 3]
Now the Lord is my Sheppard
My flow is respected, world wide
In the west I got to rep it
So please check it, cause my style is infected
With the virus, Ice Cube's the ocyeros
I bailed through, they wanna put up in bail view
Cause my point of view is not red, white and blue
It's black and blue residue
I know what crack can do, to a whole fuckin' avenue
Spit on it, and they'll get mad at you
You know I do this bullshit for your gratitude
I'ma nigga with a attitude
I'ma do what I gotta do, just to change my latitude
In the system, rollin' with my diamonds glistening
And niggas listenin', from your local prison
I'ma prism, your only vision is a rainbow in the sky
When I spit the ism
[Chorus]
The song "Take Me Away" featuring Butch Cassidy by Ice Cube is a song that talks about the struggles of the African American community in the United States of America. The song starts with the artist thanking God for a good day that he has had. He then pleads with the Almighty to intervene in the lives of his people who are struggling to make ends meet. As he talks about how much the people are suffering, he mentions that there are only two options left for them - Jesus or Mohammad since they are not getting any help from the government.
In the second verse, the artist talks about his dream of becoming the president of the United States of America. He believes that he can make a difference and bring about a change in the government's policies. He talks about how the government is only interested in making money, and the people are therefore suffering. He then goes on to mention that he is not afraid of anyone and that he will do what he has to do to change his situation.
The final verse of the song talks about the struggles that come with being an African American. Ice Cube speaks about how black people are discriminated against, and the only way they can survive is by being tough. He mentions the impact of crack on the communities and how people are left to suffer. Despite it all, he still keeps hope alive, and he believes that one day he will see a rainbow in the sky.

Ice cube is the master, the lord, the fucking god of hiphop hiphop isnt dead yet, THIS man keeps it alive, rappers as lil wayne are knocking it down, but this man, wil always pick it right up, till the day he dies

Yeah, "Wicked," good as it was, was a definite steal. But the rapper he stole it from was named King Sun (not King Tut). Sun made some great (if overlooked) CDs ("Righteous But Ruthless" is the best--if you can find it).

I understand that.Rappers recycle rhymes. The thing is...Cube stole Cypress Hill's rhymes before they were even able to get it out as a single. Ice Cube's Friday song came out first but he had stolen the hook off cypress when he heard it in the studio. there's a difference between recycling lyrics and stealing. We all know cube stole the hook from his song. but either way, that's in the past, no need to have this discussion anymore. they already squashed their beef.

Hell ya this right, down wit IceCube hot joint... .

Here's a quote from B-Real talking about the "hook:" "To this day, I don't know if he had it first, or if we had it at the same time, or if we had it first, or what." (from "The Art of War" in XXL Magazine Issue #3, 3-3-98). Both Cube's and Cypress' songs' hooks were basically just variations on the old hip-hop concert cliche "throw your hands in the air and wave 'em like you just don't care." They just altered that expression to fit the songs. But yeah, it's cool that they squashed it.

true that, but face reality, everybody takes people's INSTRUMENTALS & Remixes it, e.g DMX's Last hope, Ice Cube Is Not Known For Stealing, Otherwise nobody would listen to him.. its like me taking a lil gayne instrumental & making a track out of it.. it doesnt matter.. and friday was based on the film Friday, so its not intentional
