Iceage formed in 2008, led by singer and guitarist Elias Bender Rønnenfelt, guitarist Johan Suurballe Wieth, bassist Jakob Tvilling Pless, and drummer Dan Kjær Nielsen. The quartet, whose average age at the time was 17, had been friends for years before they began making an impression with their music. In 2009, they issued their first self-titled EP, and by 2011 they'd teamed up with Tambourhinoceros Records to release their debut album, a nervy and hard-hitting set called New Brigade. When the record was issued in the United States in mid-2011, Iceage made their American debut with a performance in Brooklyn, New York.
In 2013, the band unveiled their second album, the more sophisticated but still brutal set You're Nothing, and the LP earned them a deal with the successful independent label Matador Records. In 2014, Iceage released album number three, Plowing into the Field of Love, again through Matador, marking a new creative direction for the group, with horns, keyboards, and acoustic guitars introduced into the arrangements as the songs became more dynamic and eclectic without leaving their darker side behind. The band continued that trend on their next full-length, 2018's Beyondless, although they were further influenced by Rønnenfelt's burgeoning side project Marching Church, with whom he had released two albums in between Iceage records. The group's fifth LP, Seek Shelter, arrived in May 2021. It was their first to feature external production at the hands of Spacemen 3's Sonic Boom. The next year, the band released Shake the Feeling: Outtakes & Rarities 2015-2021, a collection of songs from various periods in Iceage's evolution that, for one reason or another, were left off of albums.

Iceage Lyrics

Fully saccharine
All these stagnant words which I confide
Perish in the night
Anyway so
Here we go again
Always faintly preying
Did I note a tremble on your arm
Just give in
Make me real
You reel in then you catch it
Catch it, catch it, catch it, catch it, catch it
Come make me real
You reel in then you catch it
Catch it, catch it, catch it, catch it
Time moves forward quickly
Moves in twenty-four
Hour segments racing for the soul
To grab chokehold
Of the minute hands
Left without a trace
Just a fleeting face
Flicker as a figment once before my eyes
Perished in the night
You want it, you want it, you want it again
Why don't you come and ask me, I adore you my friend
I said you need it, you need it, you need it again
Trust me, these arbitrary thrills will never fail to transcend
Make me real
You reel in then you catch it
Catch it, catch it, catch it, catch it, catch it
Come make me real
You reel in then you catch it
Catch it, catch it, catch it, catch it
Come make me real
You reel in then you catch it
Catch it, catch it, catch it, catch it, catch it
Come make me real
You reel in then you catch it
Catch it, catch it, catch it, catch it
I said you want it, you want it, you want it again
Why don't you come and touch it, I adore you, my friend
I said you need it, you need it, you need it again
Trust me, these arbitrary thrills, they never fail to transcend
Make me real
You reel in then you catch it
Catch it
Catch it
The lyrics of Iceage's song "Catch It" appear to explore themes of desire, transience, and the fleeting nature of moments. The opening lines of the song, "Reeling in the line, Fully saccharine," suggest a sense of being caught up in something sweet and intoxicating but ultimately stagnant. The singer confides in stagnant words that perish in the night, highlighting the ephemeral nature of their thoughts and emotions.
The chorus, "Make me real, You reel in then you catch it, Catch it, catch it, catch it, catch it, catch it," seems to express a longing for authenticity and genuine connection. The singer desires to be brought to life, to be caught by someone who sees through the facade and truly understands them. There is a sense of vulnerability in their plea to be made real.
The second verse delves into the passage of time, with references to the swift movement of the minutes and hours. The fleeting nature of experiences is emphasized, as something once vivid and present disappears without a trace. The repetition of "perished in the night" suggests a constant cycle of things being lost or forgotten.
The outro of the song repeats the desire for connection and the acknowledgement that these temporary thrills and desires will always transcend. The lyrics invite the listener to come and touch, indicating a physical and intimate connection as a means to transcendence.

I was wondering if/how they'd be able to top their last album but damn, this song definitely shows that they're capable. Also I'm sad that they're not coming to Florida though I'll drive to Georgia if I have to.
