even time won't heal me, so I don't
Can't someone help me to break free from you?
I know I'm better off protecting my love from you
Voices screaming loudly in my head
begging me to listen to my heart
Wanting me to stay rather than run away from you
Voices screaming loudly in my head
begging me to listen to my heart
Wanting me to stay rather than run away from you
I know I'm better off protecting my love from you
The song "U" by Ida Corr explores the difficult and painful experience of leaving a toxic and unhealthy relationship. The lyrics begin with the admission that the singer no longer feels the same love for their partner, but even the passage of time has not helped to heal the wounds caused by the relationship. They express a desire to break free and move on, but find themselves struggling to do so. The lines "Can't someone help me to break free from you? / I know I'm better off protecting my love from you" show a recognition that the decision to leave must ultimately come from within, but that support from others can be crucial.
The refrain of the song is "Voices screaming loudly in my head / begging me to listen to my heart." This represents the inner conflict that the singer is experiencing. They are torn between what their emotions are telling them and what they know to be the right choice for their own well-being. The voices could also represent the opinions of others who may be urging them to stay in the relationship, despite the toxicity.
Overall, "U" is a powerful and emotional portrayal of the difficult journey of leaving a toxic relationship. It communicates the pain and inner turmoil, as well as the importance of taking the necessary steps to protect oneself.
