In April 2010, Roddy Woomble announced that the band would enter a 'hiatus' following their tour. However this was proved to be a misunderstanding of sorts with Woomble later going on to suggest that there would be further shows before the end of 2010 in support of the EMI re-release of "100 Broken Windows".

Over land I could ever be,
Stranded in nostalgia,
So tonight I'll try harder,
But it's hard to fix this floodlight on me,
In a cast that's taken to places,
I'm unsure of where I want to be,
Stand up,
And stand down,
I'll climb El Capitan,
And jump off to cheers from the crowd,
Stand up,
Stand up,
And stand down,
And I hope you take your camera,
To photograph my tears as they hit the ground,
No one even listens,
The same way that no one ever laughs,
I'm taking the car out of the snow,
I'm wondering where the summer went to,
Circled by your secrets,
I'm hoping they don't include me,
At least I'm in good company,
Because there's no one else around,
Except me,
Stand up,
Stand up,
And stand down,
I'll climb El Capitan,
Just to watch the world slow down,
Stand up,
Stand up,
And stand down,
And I hope you take your camera,
Silence makes the loudest tap,
It seems far too easy to say the same things,
I'll choose my own way to use my life up,
Finally found a new way,
Say the same things,
In imaginary ways,
I'll use my life up,
You were looking at pictures in the distance,
Hoping to see the future in your pictures,
Of the distance hoping to see,
The future looking at pictures in the distance,
Hoping to see the future through your pictures,
Of the distance,
Hoping to see,
The future in your pictures of the distance
The lyrics of Idlewild's El Capitan is a poignant and introspective reflection on feelings of loneliness, uncertainty, and nostalgia. The first few lines of the song "By the harbour I harbour the strangest memories, Over land I could ever be / Stranded in nostalgia, So tonight I'll try harder" express a sense of being lost and stuck in the past. The singer feels uncertain about where they belong, and their reminiscences only serve to deepen their feelings of isolation.
The following lines "But it's hard to fix this floodlight on me, In a cast that's taken to places / I'm unsure of where I want to be" continue to convey a sense of being adrift and struggling to find a sense of purpose. The chorus, "Stand up, Stand up, And stand down, I'll climb El Capitan, And jump off to cheers from the crowd" seems to suggest that to truly live their life and elude their inner monologue of self-doubt and misery, the singer must take a significant risk and push boundaries in a daring way, like climbing a mountain.
The conclusion of the song "Finally found a new way, Say the same things, In imaginary ways, I'll use my life up" is a call to action and change, and the image of the singer looking at pictures of the future in the distance, dreaming of a better, more purposeful life, is both inspiring and poignant.
