The Warning
Idris Elba Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This is Lieutenant Gaviston of Bravo Command second division, thirteenth brigade.
While on a recon mission in Kabul, Afghanistan,
I have discovered classified information
That changes everything that I believe about this WAR.
Iā€™m gonna upload this information of great importance to Horus,
A military satellite,
Which has the technology to transmit information through time.
If you are hearing this,
You have been genetically predisposed to receive this information.

What you are hearing is a warning.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Idris Elba's song The Warning set up a war narrative with a twist. The introduction features a Lieutenant Gaviston on a recon mission in Afghanistan who has stumbled upon classified information that has shaken his belief in the war. The lyrics then shift to Horus, a military satellite that can transmit information through time, an innovative technology not yet accessible to humans. The upload of this information is referred to as a warning, and the listener is informed that they have been genetically predisposed to receive this information.

At its core, The Warning is a call to arms for individuals to reflect on their predisposed beliefs and be open to change. The war narrative adds a level of intensity and urgency to the message, emphasizing the power of information and the responsibility to act on it. The use of the military satellite Horus adds a futuristic, almost dystopian element to the song, suggesting the possibility of manipulating the past and influencing the future. Overall, the lyrics in The Warning invite listeners to question their beliefs and take action based on newfound knowledge.

Here's what would be really dope. How bout the promotion people recognize the college and underground stations that are playing Pharohe's music and follow up with them. It would also be dope If @warmedia got on their BI and followed up with people about booking requests. Looking forward to hearing the new material!

Between this, Clap, and the leak of Assassins, I'm just like "Damn! I can't wait". Only problem with this promo piece? I didn't see a release date listed? What's up with that! Marketing 101 here people, the date should have been shown at the end with the album cover, not just in the video's description box. Other than that, I'm really looking forward to adding this to my collection.

I guess this, Raekwon and Canibus are the only album I will physically buy; meaning actually going to the record store and purchasing, no itune downloads. Must have this in my cd collection. Damn shame, considering, back in the mid 90's I bought cassettes and cd's every week now Im just down to buying 2 or 3 a year.

They should have had Elba sitting in a dark room near a big screen. Talking into the computer half dead like hes on his last breath. Epic.
