1) Ilya are a duo from Bristol, England. The band consists of Joanna Swan and Nick Pullin.
The band released their debut album They Died For Beauty in 2004, receiving a massive critical acclaim. It was followed by Somerset in 2006, after the departure from major company Virgin Records. The pair has been self-producing most of their music ever since then, in their home studio near Bristol.
Ilya have often been compared to Zero 7 and other post-2000 downtempo acts, whilst also being considered as continuing the trip-hop tradition, originated in Bristol in the 1990s.[citation needed] If their first album probably fitted better in the Zero 7-esque downtempo category, their second one was an attempt to a more organic and rowdier sound. A musical direction that was to be followed since then, each album being somewhat more radical and bare than the previous.

I Want To Know
Ilya Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Truth be told I'm falling apart
She cuts right into me
I'm waiting for everything (anything you say)
We sing in harmony
But I can't have her heart
Your light leaves my eyes and takes my soul who are you
Where, where did you come from I want to know
Where did you come from I want to know
I'm the fool who looked in your eyes
I saw your soul, please look into mine
These lyrics tell the story of someone who is feeling incredibly lonely and disconnected from the world around them. They are falling apart and desperately seeking a connection with someone else, but they feel that this person they are drawn to is just out of reach. The line "she cuts right into me" illustrates how this attraction is both painful and irresistible. The singer wants to know where this person came from and who they really are, but at the same time they fear that they will never be able to fully have their heart.
The repeated line "your light leaves my eyes and takes my soul who are you" speaks to the idea that this person is like a beacon of light, drawing the singer in despite their fears and uncertainties. The final lines, "I'm the fool who looked in your eyes, I saw your soul, please look into mine" are a vulnerable plea for connection and understanding. The singer sees themselves as a fool for allowing themselves to become so vulnerable, but they are still hoping that this person will see them and understand them in return.
Overall, these lyrics capture the feeling of being emotionally adrift and searching for someone who can anchor us to the world.
