A brief description of the Sharks ARG:
Links were found using puzzle pieces. Each piece had a secret code/cipher (Morse, binary, braille, etc.) that translated to 3 letters. These 3 letters were inserted into lnk.to links with the corresponding letter of “Mercury A2”. Each link had a different stem of the song, which when put together, formed the full 30-second snippet.
On Friday, June 17th, the band posted the solutions to the ARG, the full music video poster, and announced the release date of the song to be June 24th, 2022.
Via an Austria only Facebook post on June 21st, the band announced the music video will have a global premiere Friday, June 24th in Vienna, followed by a Q&A with the band and an exclusive first listen to their "Mercury" double album a week before the release of Act 2.

Sharks is a song about liars, and this video perfectly captures it.
The overall theme of this video is heist-styled, but they're not actually stealing anything - they're letting sharks loose. Stealthy heists are compiled of lies so no one knows that anything is being stolen or messed with. But why set loose sharks? Because sharks, in terms of lyrics, are liars. Liars who would try to stop anything that gets in their way, like how sharks set prey on the first person they see, especially if the person panics. By letting sharks loose, Dan Reynolds has released lies to the world - and with that many sharks, the lies are unstoppable.
The video begins with Reynolds planning with his team - what facts would cause the lie to fail, and what would support it. Then comes the distractions - whether it's drugging the camera guy, engaging some guards in a conversation, or causing a ruckus to clear a pathway, these actions distract those who have the highest chance of exposing the lie.
A notable moment is the bridge, where Reynolds sneaks through a bunch of lasers. It's a high-tension moment, as one wrong move can already ruin the whole scheme. Reynolds is forced to make absurd moves - or, conceptually, stretch the truth in wild ways - to finally set loose the sharks.
In the end, this video is not just a heist story - it's a metaphorical showcase of how one lie can set loose more. And it's amazingly made, I can tell you that.
