Black Water
Imindain Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A black figure
Of some form strange
Front or back
I cannot tell...

A hand is raised
As five candles
Of resplendent bluish flame
It leaks black water

The bricks are black
And a heavy haze
The floor is full
With broken blood

And so many!
In Carbonised rigor!
Of Greyest ash!
A beautiful monument!

And so many!
In Carbonised rigor!

Of Greyest ash!
A beautiful monument!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Imindain's song "Black Water" are steeped in eerie imagery and an unsettling atmosphere. The opening lines describe a black figure of unknown origin, adding to the ominous tone. The singer's confusion creates a sense of disorientation in the listener, further accentuated by the line "front or back, I cannot tell." This leaves one questioning whether the figure is approaching or retreating, adding an extra layer of suspense.

The second verse introduces the image of a raised hand, accompanied by five candles with a bluish flame. However, instead of light, the scene is darkened by the presence of black water leaking from the candles. The combination of unusual elements that don't quite make sense adds up to create an unsettling aura. The final verse reinforces the eeriness, as the singer describes a room filled with bricks and heavy haze. The floor is strewn with broken blood, as countless bodies in a state of carbonised rigor and grey ash form a monument.

The song creates an unnerving soundscape and a sense of discomfort in the listener. The imagery is vivid but doesn't quite fit together in a logical way, further heightening the strangeness of the experience. The meaning behind the lyrics remains open to interpretation, but it's clear that Imindain sought to create a haunting atmosphere with this track.

It's been about 5 or 6 years since I listened to this masterpiece for the first time and I always end up coming back here. I've listened to the whole album and that's for sure the best of the genre - that is, if we can label Imindain with something. For me this is unique. Black Water in particular is extremely powerful and has such a heavy apocalyptic atmosphere that it makes me have kind a melancholy moment of death and destruction every time I listen to it.
Hails to Imindain from Brazil. Much respect!

I've heard the whole of the Monolithium demo, and I'll say only this: Imindain are the best thing to happen to the funeral doom scene in years.
