The band had its genesis when long-time Statesmen Quartet member Jake Hess retired from that band on December 7, 1963.[1] Hess wanted to start a new group recognized as "king" of the Southern gospel field and thought the "Imperials" would be a good moniker. After getting the go-ahead from Marion Snider for permission to use the name (Snider had previously operated an Imperial Quartet named after its sponsor Imperial Sugar), he gathered together pianist Henry Slaughter from the Weatherford Quartet,ex-Oak Ridge Boys baritone Gary McSpadden, the Weatherford Quartet's bass singer Armond Morales and Speer Family tenor Sherrill (Shawn) Neilsen to join him.[2] Signing with Benson Records subsidiary Skylite, the group had a busy first year releasing 4 albums in 1964.

(There's just two kinds of people in the world)
(Why can't we fall in love?)
(Just two kinds of people in the world)
Boy meets girl and love begins
Oh, what a feeling you get from within
Oh, I should know for I'm i-in love
I'm the boy, you're the girl, all the stars up above
(Just two kinds of people in the world)
(Why can't we fall in love?)
(Just two kinds of people in the world)
(They are a boy and girl)
(Boy meets girl and love begins)
(Oh, what a feeling you get from within)
Oh, I should know for I'm i-in love
I'm the boy, you're the girl, all the stars up above
(Just two kinds of people in the world)
(Why can't we fall in love?)
(Just two kinds of people in the world)
(Why can't we fall in lo-lo-lo-love?)

"Two People In the World" is a classic doo-wop love song by Little Anthony and the Imperials. The song was written by Richard Barrett and Ernest Wright, Jr. In the song, they express their longing for "just two people" to fall in love with each other. The lyrics are straightforward and simple, but convey a powerful message about the universal desire for love.
The song begins with the declaration that there are only "two kinds of people in the world" - boys and girls. The singer goes on to describe the feeling of falling in love, stating that it's something that can't be explained - it's just a feeling that you get from within. The chorus consists of repeating the opening line, "Why can't we fall in love?", expressing the universally felt desire for love and companionship. The song then ends with a hopeful reiteration of this sentiment and a repeated plea for love.

In 1957 and 1958 in Castro Valley Calif. the 7th and 8th graders had their
own dances at the Castro Valley Community Center -the high school
students could not attend.3 girls from Castro Valley High School did
come though to teach the 7th and 8th graders to dance. They thought
us how to do the bop.the stroll.and most important how to slow dance.
This is the song we learned how to slow dance to,and let me tell you
every time I hear it I have a very special feeling way down in side that
is hard to explain. To slow dance holding a beautiful girl so close and
dancing to this wonderful song was something even now at 76 was
a most exciting thing.I wish you youngsters could have experienced
it because you would remember it for a lifetime.

Oh my goodness. Oh my, this reminds me of being too young to go to our neighbors party but my sisters went. This song floated out into the streets while I peeked to watch couples dance and kiss. Oh my, times were beautiful back then and I thought this was one of the most beautiful songs in the world!

Classic Doowop! I remember playing this over and over again at 14 years old in my basement with the windows and door wide open. Cranked my "hi-fi" up really loud at 7am every morning before going to school. Bet the neighbors could have killed me. I was in love with a 16 year old street-wise boy at the time, and I pretended this was "our song"~
