1) A death metal band formed in New Jersey by John McEntee and Paul Ledney in 1989. The two were previously played together in Revenant. The band is currently located in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Incantation was one of Relapse Records' first signings, releasing their initial seven inches and a handful of albums with them. The band has seen many lineup changes in their eighteen year history and guitarist John McEntee is the sole original member. They have released 10 full-length studio albums to date as well as a range of EPs, split releases, compilations and live albums. The band is notable for mixing widely varied tempos into their music, often playing slow, down-tuned passages similar to those performed by other death-doom bands like Autopsy, Winter, and Disembowelment.
Incantation first came to prominence with Onward to Golgotha and Mortal Throne of Nazarene, which features Craig Pillard on vocals. Following the release of the Forsaken Mourning of Angelic Anguish EP in 1997, Pillard departed Incantation and was replaced by Daniel Corchado of The Chasm. Corchado performed on one album, 1998's Diabolical Conquest, before departing. Vocalist Mike Saez performed on the next two albums, The Infernal Storm (2000) and Blasphemy (2002). Beginning with Decimate Christendom, guitarist and frontman John McEntee took on vocal responsibilities, a role that he continues to the present.
2) A Tribal Flute Band.
Incantation is also a Tribal Flute Band (Musical Group)
The band are a musical group playing traditional tribal and other South American music. The band started in 1981 from a pool of musicians who were, at the time, playing all kinds of different types of music for the (then) Ballet Rambert, based in London. A new ballet was choreographed (called “Ghost Dances”) about political oppression in South America, to the music of Inti-Illimani, the exiled Chilean folk group.
Incantation was chosen as the band’s name, based on the word “Inca”.
The Fallen Priest
Incantation Lyrics

Question your god
You've lost your faith
Once man of the cloth
Now consumed by disgust
Your will was weak
My turn to destroy
Arise, the fallen priest
I lust for sin
3AM, I mock the church
Invert your savior
Awaiting the heaven's descent
Unleashed from hell
To spill your blood
No mercy
No remorse
My turn to destroy
For my grief, you will pay
For my pain, you will suffer
Now I see what you did for me.
[repeat 2nd verse]
Faith no more abides in me
Released from its deception
I harbor no guilt
Reborn through my transgressions
The Fallen Priest by Incantation is a heavy metal song that delves into the internal conflict of a man who once was a man of the cloth, but now has lost faith in God and turned against him. The first stanza of the song starts with a note of rebellion by urging God to question his faithful about their readiness to surrender their trust in him. The song then leads into the internal struggle of a fallen priest who once believed in God, but now his faith has weakened, and he has lost his trust. The priest’s beliefs are reflected in lyrics such as "My turn to destroy" and "I lust for sin," which show his newfound desire to go against his former beliefs.
The second stanza of the song starts by talking about the priest’s defiance and how he mocks the church at 3 AM while waiting for the heavens to fall. The lyrics then proceed to talk about how he has been given the power to take revenge for the grief and pain he has suffered. The song reaches a climax with the high-pitched vocals of the singer who seems to be reclaiming his power and announcing his rebirth through his transgressions.
Overall, the song is a powerful and introspective look into the conflict of faith and rebellion faced by those who lose faith in their religion. It shows the psychological impact it has on those who lose their way and the transformative power of negative experiences. The lyrics reflect how one can be reborn by challenging established beliefs and finding solace in their personal transgressions.
