Lyrics for Hunger For Power
Performed by Incubus
Rational human beings irrational in other ways
Betraying each other in an unfriendly race
All they do is think for themselves
Ask them for some help and they'll tell you to go to Hell
Welcome to the brutal world
Vehemence, the way it goes
Rejoicing for the disgrace of the successful one
The jealousy is the weapon of the incompetent bum
So if you think you've got your best frined
You better look back, you never know what he might do next
The anger is built in silence
It's gonna cause some ignorant violence
That's a goal rule number one
To achieve in command
What they've done in the past
You're gonna let'em pay back
I wonder why you do to others
What you don't want them doing to you
If prejudice has a value in life
Evil would rule you too
Remember for all the bad things you commit
You're gonna pay with the same coin, you damn fool

Breaking the barrier between patience and rage
That are controlling you
Now you're feeling what your best friend was going through
That's the way the circle of life
Has been for many years ago people are so greedy
When they're in trouble, they look for you
You can't lose this society battle
Evil plans are coming to your mind
To fight back, a sabotage
That has happened many times

CHORUS
Hunger for power
When you die
All you have
Won't go with you
Hunger for power
Stupid fight
You better stand straight
Or you might fall

CHORUS
Hunger for power
You'll never know
What might happen
To us all
Hunger for power
When you die

All you have
Won't go with you

Overall Meaning

The song Hunger for Power by Incubus is a thought-provoking reflection on the nature of human beings and their relentless quest for power. The lyrics highlight how human beings can be rational in some aspects of their life but act irrational and betray each other in an unfriendly race of survival. The song talks about how people think for themselves, and asking for help can lead to rejection and being told to go to hell. The song essentially provides a commentary on how our society is thirsty for power, and the hunger for it can make people do drastic things.

The song emphasizes how the brutal world operates, where individuals are rejoicing in the disgrace of successful ones and how jealousy is a weapon of incompetent individuals. The anger built in silence is terrifying, causing ignorant violence, which is a goal of rule number one that people achieve in command. The song also stresses the importance of not doing things to others that we do not want them to do to us. Prejudice, if it existed in life, would rule over us too. The song's chorus talks about the hunger for power and how, when we die, all we have won't go with us, so we need to stand straight and not fall prey to greed and power.

I am a HUGE Metallica fan, but I would like to say the following. First of all, this song is pretty good. I would also like to give huge props to Opprobrium for coming out and condemning this lawsuit which was brought about by the record company that released this song. They have distanced themselves from the suit, which is clearly without merit. I have a lot of respect for how Opprobrium handled this, and I plan to check out more of their music. Although death metal has never quite been my cup of tea.

JonPaulProject

that's one way to get people to listen to their stuff... good job! not bad! doesn't sound like moth in any way...

Angus

dead age

this kicks ass!!!!

Landoram0215

Holy shit ,this kicks serious ass , ....

J M

The band made a statement that they have nothing to do with the cease/desist, that they own the rights to this song and would never leverage them in a suit. And that they stand on the side of metallica on this issue.

Father Metal

Incubus never claimed Metallica ripped them off. It was the record label that was making the claims, NOT the band.

G666

Classic album! How on earth does track this sound anything like the Metallica song? Haha

Cisneros Nava

Ok...it doesn't sound like Metallica's song, but i actually found a good song, good publicity, i will search more songs from this band

Tuah Enterprise

the band (I rather called them Incubus instead of OPPROBRIUM) has issued a statement in their facebook and Blabbermouth.net that they did not sent out the letter. Some asshole liar has made their name bad. Hail the old Incubus!!!
