Incubus is a five-man alternative rock band formed in 1991, based in Calabasas, California. Members include Brandon Boyd (vocals and percussion), Mike Einziger (guitar), Ben Kenney (bass), Jose Pasillas II (drums) and DJ Chris Kilmore (turntables). Former members of the band include Gavin Koppel (a.k.a. DJ Lyfe) (turntables) and Alex Katunich (a.k.a. Dirk Lance) (bass). The band's name may seem a peculiar choice to fans, as an incubus is a type of demon that, in mythological lore, comes in the night and has sex with women while they are sleeping; it seduces them in their dreams The story behind the name is that the band needed to think of a name hours before their first show and, after a few failed choices, Mike looked in a dictionary and chose "Incubus" almost at random. Mike says that the name was chosen because it sounded silly; Brandon holds that it was chosen because they were teenagers and the definition had the word "sex" in it. "We really didn't want to rape women in their sleep. But, we were fifteen and it seemed harmless to us then, and we never changed it," says the band.
Incubus has received both critical acclaim and commercial success, reaching multi-platinum sales, as well as releasing several successful singles. The band earned mainstream recognition with the release of their 1999 album Make Yourself. In 2001, Incubus became even more successful with the single "Drive" and their follow-up album Morning View. Their sixth studio album, Light Grenades, debuted at No. 1 in 2006 and has received Gold certification in the U.S. Incubus released their first greatest hits album Monuments and Melodies in June 2009, accompanied by a tour of the United States, Japan and Canada. The band's most recent album, 8, was released on April 21st, 2017.

Speak to me the way you do
Bleeds me to believe that you
Never stepped out of the
Skin you live within, but when
And if this day occurs
Your tongue the taste will imitate
A battery the anti-equilibrius
The look on your face was priceless
A light goes on upstairs
The attic ablaze
This island isn't big enough
For both of us who will swim
In ell infested oceans
Kiss the sand goodbye because
The tide is coming up and in
Ya water water water everywhere
And every chance to sink
Its an amalgamation of the things
You aren't the ways you wish you were
A split second perceiving of the way
You really look to everyone of them
I wish that you could get a glimpse
I wish that you could see because
The look on your face was priceless!
The lyrics of Incubus's "Priceless" delve deeply into themes of insecurity, inadequacy, and ultimately, the importance of self-awareness. The opening lines "The fact that you think you can speak to me the way you do, Bleeds me to believe that you never stepped out of the skin you live within," essentially convey the idea that the singer is frustrated with someone who is lashing out at them due to their own insecurities, and inability to recognize their own flaws. The lines that follow refer to the idea of karma or retribution: "But when and if this day occurs, Your tongue the taste will imitate, A battery the anti-equilibrius, Your stomach becomes the floor." Essentially, the singer is saying that eventually, the individual's own negative energy will eventually come back to them in some form or another.
The subsequent lines build upon these ideas, describing a scenario in which "the look on your face was priceless," indicating that some sort of confrontation or realization has occurred. The lines "This island isn't big enough for both of us who will swim, In ell infested oceans, Kiss the sand goodbye because, The tide is coming up and in" illustrate a need for separation or distance between the singer and the individual in question, as they clash too greatly to coexist. The final lines of the song underscore the idea that self-awareness and the ability to reflect upon one's own flaws and insecurities is paramount: "It's an amalgamation of the things you aren't the ways you wish you were, A split second perceiving of the way you really look to everyone of them, I wish that you could get a glimpse, I wish that you could see because The look on your face was priceless!"
