Bittersweet
Inga Liljeström Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

oh my heart is a bird
and its stirred by you
never one to lose heart
my bittersweet tune

harpooned my heart
you have
without knowing
i was caught (caught red handed)
come to me in the silence of snow
and i will fall at your feet

sailor
sir tom
i think i've got it
sailor
sir tom
i think i've got it
i think i was caught on your sleeve sir
think i was caught out

in the marrow of the morrow
will i be the song you'll sing
a whistling, whistling
every sailor has his tune

and oh god, god
i'm a fallen women for you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Inga Liljeström's song "Bittersweet" capture a profound sense of longing and vulnerability that comes from being deeply infatuated with someone. The singer describes their heart as a bird, a delicate and sensitive entity that is easily stirred by the presence of the person they desire. Despite this vulnerability, the singer asserts that they are never one to lose heart, suggesting a resilience in the face of emotional turbulence. The reference to a "bittersweet tune" encapsulates the complex blend of emotions experienced in matters of the heart - a mixture of sweetness and pain.

The imagery of being "harpooned" by the object of affection conveys a sense of being pierced or captured by their influence, without the person even realizing the impact they have had. The use of the metaphor of being "caught red-handed" further emphasizes the involuntary nature of falling for someone. The call to "come to me in the silence of snow, and I will fall at your feet" portrays a willingness to surrender to this overpowering emotion, to submit to the pull of love despite any doubts or fears.

The mention of "Sailor, sir Tom" suggests a specific individual, perhaps a romanticized figure who embodies the archetype of a sailor. The repetition of "I think I've got it" reflects a sense of realization or understanding dawned upon the singer, as they acknowledge being captivated by this person. The imagery of being "caught on your sleeve" conveys a sense of being entangled or ensnared in their presence, unable to resist the allure they exude. This sense of being "caught out" hints at a feeling of being exposed or vulnerable in this emotional entanglement.

The final verse delves deeper into the uncertainty and yearning felt by the singer. The mention of being in the "marrow of the morrow" conveys a sense of being at the core of the future, wondering if they will be the song that the person will choose to sing. The repetition of "a whistling, whistling" evokes a haunting melody, a song that echoes in the mind of both the singer and the object of their affection. The declaration of being a "fallen woman" for this person carries a weight of surrender and devotion, acknowledging the impact they have had on the singer's heart and soul.

what i meant is that it's hard to get to know her by chance, she's a french/australian artist if i recall, and it's a royal pain in the ass to get to know anything about future projects / songs / appearances etc (i'm french btw). Well it does give you some kinda "achievment" feeling when you finally dig up something, but still, i'd like to know a bit more (maybe it changed since i last tried and gave up outta frustration ^^). art's Skye O'Shea, jst found it, apparently some australian painter
