Everything I Own
Inna De Yard [feat. Ken Boothe] Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You sheltered me from harm
Kept me warm, kept me warm
You gave my life to me
Set me free, set me free
The finest years I ever knew
Is all the years I had with you

And I would give anything I own
I'd give up my life, my heart, my own
And I would give anything I own
Just to have you back again

Is there someone you know
That won't let you go
And taking it all for granted?
You may lose them one day
Someone takes them away
And you don't hear the words they say

And I would give anything I own
I'd give up my life, my heart, my own
I would give anything I own
Just to have you back again
Just to talk to you words again

If there's someone you know
That won't let you go
And taking it all for granted?
You may lose them one day
Someone takes them away
And you don't hear the words they say

And I would give anything I own
I'd give up my life, my heart, my own
And I would give anything I own
Just to have you back again

Just to talk to you words again
Just hold you once again

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Everything I Own" by Inna De Yard featuring Ken Boothe convey a deep sense of gratitude, love, and longing for someone who has been a shelter, a source of warmth, and a liberator in the singer's life. The opening lines express gratitude to this person for protecting and comforting them from harm, and for granting them the gift of life and freedom. The chorus repeats the sentiment that the years spent with this person were the best of their life and that they would give up everything they own, even their life, heart, and identity, just to have them back again.

The second verse highlights the importance of cherishing and appreciating the people in our lives while we still have them. It reflects on the tendency to take loved ones for granted, assuming they will always be there, but warns that one day they may be taken away and their words will no longer be heard. The repetition of the chorus emphasizes the desperation and emptiness the singer feels without the person they have lost, wishing to have them back, to have the opportunity to talk to them and hold them once again.

Overall, the lyrics of "Everything I Own" convey a powerful message about the profound impact of love and the importance of valuing and cherishing our relationships before it's too late. It serves as a reminder to appreciate the people we hold dear in our lives and not take their presence for granted.

The guy who appears on 2:50 is Derajah: a great singer, musician and a strong spiritual person. This same brother provided me one of the most important days in my life when he took us for visiting Inna de Yard, Chinna's house and studio, some weeks ago. He also took us to Ken Boothe's house where we had a great time sitting besides a live legend. We give thanks and praises to all brothers from Jamaica. Brazil loves Jamaica so much. Never give up the fight!!! We shall win!!!!
