Biography
Have you ever gone to bed thinking tomorrow will be a new day chalk full of new beginnings and opportunity only to wake up to more of the same? This theme occurred to Max Greenhalgh (AKA the Eyelid Kid) when developing a moniker for his music. “The name of the band was formed around the concept of feeling completely inspired to take hold of life and be the best person you can be the next day before going to bed,” says Greenhalgh. “Then waking up as to reset those aspirations with normalized motivation and just more of the same. I’ve been an insomniac for the last three years or so. Therefore I’d spend countless nights unintentionally staying awake in a subconscious effort to keep the inspiration alive.” Inspired and the Sleep is an ever revolving project of solo lo-fi recordings constantly in the works as well as a live band translation in a different vein coming from San Diego, CA including the Eyelid Kid on bass and vocals, Hayden Stewart (drums), and Bryce Outcault (Guitar, Keys). All three work together as beach lifeguards giving their music a oceanic tinge complimented by angular grooves and crisp melody.

Light of my life
Pacing the room in sunrise shade
Morning moon
Silence and king tide
Leveling ocean
Old world shame
Here and now
Cradling chasm for every breath
Shock and awe
Thomas and Jesus
John on the barstool
Scribbling plans
And what could become of me
If I let go
Let go
Here and now
Shape of the sundown
Seeking your shadow through all of time
Narrow sky
Slow in the evening
Moving your bags to the vacant room
In the song "Here & Now" by Inspired & the Sleep, the lyrics invoke a sense of presence and introspection. The first verse begins with the lines "Here and now, Light of my life, Pacing the room in sunrise shade, Morning moon." These lines suggest that the singer is in a moment of contemplation, possibly in the early morning hours, observing the interplay between light and darkness. The "light of my life" could refer to a person or something that brings joy and meaning, while the "morning moon" hints at the juxtaposition of two opposing elements, representing the duality of life itself.
The next lines, "Silence and king tide, Leveling ocean, Old world shame," evoke a sense of reflection and transformation. The "silence" and the "king tide" symbolize a moment of stillness and immense power, respectively. Together, they represent the upheaval and change that can occur in one's life. The phrase "leveling ocean" could suggest the leveling of emotions or the eradication of past obstacles. The mention of "old world shame" further reinforces the theme of letting go of societal or personal burdens in the present moment.
Moving on to the second verse, the lyrics state, "Here and now, Throw on my coat, Cradling chasm for every breath, Shock and awe." This section highlights the concept of embracing vulnerability and exploring the unknown. The act of throwing on a coat could be seen as a metaphorical armor or protection against the uncertainties of life. "Cradling chasm for every breath" suggests a willingness to face deep emotions and dive into the abyss of one's thoughts and feelings. The phrase "shock and awe" conveys a sense of amazement and wonder in the face of these experiences.
The lines "Thomas and Jesus, John on the barstool, Scribbling plans, And what could become of me, If I let go, Let go" explore the idea of seeking guidance and finding inspiration in unexpected places. The mention of Thomas and Jesus references the biblical story of Thomas doubting Jesus' resurrection until he saw the evidence for himself. It suggests the importance of having a skeptical mind while also remaining open to possibilities. The reference to John on the barstool showcases a more contemporary figure in a mundane setting, emphasizing the idea that inspiration can be found in ordinary moments. The lyrics ultimately pose the question of what could happen if the singer relinquishes control and embraces change.
The final verse, "Here and now, Shape of the sundown, Seeking your shadow through all of time, Narrow sky, Slow in the evening, Moving your bags to the vacant room," depicts a vivid scene filled with symbolism. The "shape of the sundown" and the "narrow sky" capture the fleeting nature of time and the limitations of the physical world. The mention of "seeking your shadow through all of time" could refer to searching for someone's presence or influence throughout different phases of life. The image of "moving your bags to the vacant room" suggests a metaphorical transition or a fresh start, leaving behind previous burdens and embracing new possibilities.
Overall, Inspired & the Sleep's "Here & Now" showcases introspective lyrics that encourage listeners to embrace the present moment, let go of past fears, and seek inspiration in unexpected places. The song engages with themes of transformation, vulnerability, and the power of introspection, inviting listeners to reflect on their own lives and possibilities.
