Irene joined Maynard Ferguson's band in the late 1950s and sang with groups led by Stan Kenton and Shelly Manne.
Irene then started a solo career until her death at 46 years of age. She was a ballad singer who stated that Carmen McRae was one of her inspirations.

A Room With A View

Through the perishing
Winter nights and days,
A funny little phrase
That means so much to me,
That you've got to be
With me heart and soul,
For on you the whole thing leans.
Come with me and leave the noisy crowds,
Sunlight shines for us above the clouds.
Please don't turn away
Or my dream will stay
Hidden out of sight,
Among a lot of "might have beens"!
A room with a view,
And you,
And no-one to worry us,
No one to hurry us through
This dream we've found.
We'll gaze at the sky,
And try
To guess what it's all about,
Then we will figure out why
The world is round!
We'll be as happy and contented as birds upon a tree,
High above the mountains and the sea.
We'll bill and we'll coo-ooo-oo,
And sorrow will never come,
Oh, will it ever come true,
Our room with a view?
A room with a view,
And you,
And no-one to give advice,
That sounds like a paradise few
Could fail to choose.
With fingers entwined,
We'll find
Relief from the preachers
Who always beseech us to mind
Our P's and Q's.
We'll watch the whole world pass before us while we are sitting still,
Leaning on our own window sill.
We'll bill and we'll coo-ooo-oo,
And maybe a stork will bring
This, that and t'other thing
To our room with a view.
"A Room With A View" by Irene Kral is a romantic and dreamlike song that explores the desire for a peaceful and secluded space where two lovers can escape from the hustle and bustle of the world. The lyrics depict the singer cherishing a special phrase that represents the deep connection they share with their partner. This phrase is a reminder that their relationship relies entirely on each other, and they must be together heart and soul. The singer invites their partner to join them in leaving behind the noisy crowds and embracing a different perspective, symbolized by the sunlight shining above the clouds. It is crucial for the partner not to turn away, as that would mean leaving their dream hidden and unfulfilled among the uncertainties of life.
The central theme of the song revolves around the longing for a room with a view, where the lovers can be alone and uninterrupted. This room represents a sanctuary, devoid of worries and pressures, where they can freely explore their dreams and aspirations. As they gaze at the sky together, they ponder the purpose and mysteries of life, searching for answers that will help them understand why the world is the way it is. In this room, they hope to find happiness and contentment, akin to birds perched on a tree, elevated above the world's troubles.
The song carries a sense of optimism and anticipation, as the singer envisions a future where they can coexist in harmony, free from the judgment and interference of others. They desire a space where they can be themselves, without constantly having to heed the advice and criticisms of others. Their fingers entwined, they seek relief from the preachers and lecturers who always implore them to conform and follow rules. In their room with a view, they can simply observe the world passing by, finding solace in their own thoughts and shared experiences.
Overall, "A Room With A View" encapsulates the yearning for a private and idyllic setting where love can flourish, and where the pressures of the outside world fade away into insignificance.

Our manners and behavior.
We'll watch the whole world pass before us while we are sitting still,
We will observe the entire world go by as we remain motionless
Leaning on our own window sill.
Resting upon our own windowsill.
And maybe a stork will bring
And perhaps a stork will deliver
This, that and t'other thing
Various things and objects
To our room with a view.
To our space with a beautiful outlook.
