A lucky break led to Iris playing at the KRBE 104.1 festival in Houston with acts like C&C Music Factory and Lucas, as well as a performance at the side stage of the Duran Duran / Waterlilies concert that same year. After the appearance of an early version of the track "Annie, Would I Lie To You" on various compilations, the band signed with Todd Durrant from A Different Drum, and work began on the first record.

But the flavour's gone back to just mine
Something beautiful happened last night
Now there's pink fluffy clouds on my mind
The taste should've left me confused
Did I like it only 'cause it was new?
Honey, look what you got me into
She's cotton candy
Going up, up, up
The sky is cotton candy
Going up, up, up
The sky is cotton candy
Stacking up with love
'Cause it might come in handy
Going up, up, up
The sky is cotton candy
Going up, up, up
The sky is cotton candy
Going up, up, up
The sky is cotton candy
Stacking up with love
'Cause it might come in handy
Going up, up, up
The sky is cotton candy
I've never been to you planet
But somehow I can speak the language
It's too natural not to feel right
And too sweet not to have one more bite
The taste should've left me confused
Did I like it only 'cause it was new?
Honey, look what you got me into
Maybe sugar could be good for you
She's cotton candy
Going up, up, up
The sky is cotton candy
Going up, up, up
The sky is cotton candy
Stacking up with love
'Cause it might come in handy
Going up, up, up
The sky is cotton candy
Going up, up, up
The sky is cotton candy
Going up, up, up
The sky is cotton candy
Stacking up with love
'Cause it might come in handy
Going up, up, up
The sky is cotton candy
First you liquify me
Then evaporate me
Can ever get enough
She's cotton candy
First you liquify me
Then evaporate me
Can ever get enough
She's cotton candy
Stacking up with love
'Cause it might come in handy
Going up, up, up
The sky is cotton candy
Going up, up, up
The sky is cotton candy
Going up, up, up
The sky is cotton candy
Stacking up with love
'Cause it might come in handy
Going up, up, up
The sky is cotton candy
First you liquify me
Then evaporate me
Can ever get enough
Maybe sugar could be good for you
She's cotton candy
Going up, up, up
The sky is cotton candy
Going up, up, up
The sky is cotton candy
Stacking up with love
'Cause it might come in handy
Going up, up, up
The sky is cotton candy
The lyrics of Iris's song "Cotton Candy" explore the feeling of falling in love and the intoxicating high it can bring. The singer describes feeling like she's on another planet, unable to communicate in any way except through the language of her lover. The imagery of cotton candy is used to represent the sweetness of this new experience, both in flavor and in the pink fluffy clouds that evoke a sense of whimsy and joy. The singer is initially unsure if her attraction is genuine, questioning whether she only likes her lover because they are new and exciting. The repetition of the lines "Maybe sugar could be good for you / She's cotton candy" suggest that the singer is coming around to the idea that, even if the sweetness is fleeting or temporary, there is something valuable to be found in enjoying it while it lasts. The song ends with the refrain "first you liquify me / then evaporate me / can ever get enough / she's cotton candy," conveying the sensation of being consumed and deconstructed by the intensity of love, and the insatiable desire for more that it creates.
