In 2006 Isobel released a collaborative LP (Ballad of the Broken Seas) with former Screaming Trees and Queens of the Stone Age singer Mark Lanegan, a mixture of folk and more rock-orientated music. October 2006 also saw the release of her latest album, Milkwhite Sheets, a more acoustic folk album, consisting of a mixture of traditional songs alonside Isobel's own compositions.
Isobel's band The Gentle Waves released its first album on Jeepster Records, titled The Green Fields of Foreverland, in 1999. The second Gentle Waves record, Swansong For You came out one year later. In 2002, she collaborated with Scottish jazz musician Bill Wells on a collection of Billie Holliday songs, released by Creeping Bent.
In 2003 Campbell released Amorino, the first solo album under her own name, to very good reviews. Bill Wells was featured here again, along with other jazz musicians.
Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan form a unique combination of gruff vocals and dulcet voices. They have released three albums so far: Ballad of the Broken Seas, which received a nomination in the 2006 Mercury Awards, Sunday at Devil Dirt, which was released in May 2008. The album received US release in Fall 2008. And finally their third album Hawk was released in August 2010.
Raven

There came a weeping from outside my chamber door
Weary from fever I rose up?
A Raven with a broken wing yet nothing more
I turn my head the once and bird become a damsel
With lips of cherry, ivory skin and lustrous hair
Open the doorway wide and smile for her to enter
Sweet thighs of ruin how I loved her, and I loved her
She muttered low and helped me to her infant breasts
Deliverance was long and strong as god's my witness
Babylon burning sorrow known with each caress
[Chorus]
And let the night in
For you were broken
Too I'll to touch
Too much
And with the medal Eguinal had done their duty
The morning glory lying awoke with duly low
I breathed my last the day the warning bell was knelling
She smoothed her feathers down and flew out my window
[Chorus: x3]
The Raven by Isobel Campbell is a song that tells a poignant story of love and loss. The song opens with the singer experiencing a strange, weeping sensation outside her door in late September. She rises from her pre-existing fever and warily steps towards the source of the noise, where she finds a raven lying with a broken wing. In an unexpected twist, she watches in amazement as the bird transforms into a damsel. The damsel has cherry lips, ivory skin, and lustrous hair. The singer is drawn to her beauty and kindly opens the door to her. She has never seen a creature as rare as this damsel, and her desire for her grows.
As the story unfolds, the singer describes her passionate love affair with the damsel. She describes her as having "sweet thighs of ruin,” and she becomes consumed by her beauty. The damsel, in turn, loves the singer deeply and serves as a comforting presence in her life. However, the singer is terminally ill and must face the inevitable end of her journey. In the final stanza, the singer succumbs to her illness and dies. The damsel soothes her and then disappears, leaving the singer's window open to let the night in.
The song's theme is bittersweet, as it explores the fleeting nature of life and the inevitability of death. The singer's love for the damsel is intense, and she takes comfort in her presence. Still, she ultimately must face the loneliness of her final journey alone. The song is simultaneously eerie and haunting, with its descriptions of strange transformations and death.

And in the dawning of the day in late September
On a September morning just before sunrise
There came a weeping from outside my chamber door
I heard someone crying outside my bedroom
Weary from fever I rose up?
Despite feeling tired and unwell, I got out of bed
A Raven with a broken wing yet nothing more
I saw a raven outside, but it appeared injured and unable to fly
I turn my head the once and bird become a damsel
Suddenly the raven transformed into a beautiful woman
With lips of cherry, ivory skin and lustrous hair
She had full red lips, pale smooth skin, and shiny hair
Open the doorway wide and smile for her to enter
I welcomed her into my room with a friendly smile
Not in my lifetime seen a beast so rare
I had never seen such a beautiful and exotic creature before
Sweet thighs of ruin how I loved her, and I loved her
I was deeply infatuated with her and adored her body
She muttered low and helped me to her infant breasts
She spoke softly and offered me comfort by letting me rest my head on her chest
Deliverance was long and strong as god's my witness
Our intimate moments together were intense and powerful
Babylon burning sorrow known with each caress
We were consumed with passion, but it was bittersweet because we knew it couldn't last
[Chorus]
Refrain
And let the night in
We embraced the darkness and gave ourselves to each other
For you were broken
We were both damaged in some way
Too I'll to touch
We were too sick or hurt to connect with others
Too much
We had too many problems and emotions to deal with
And with the medal Eguinal had done their duty
I had fulfilled my obligations or duties to my country, possibly in a military setting
The morning glory lying awoke with duly low
I woke up feeling sad and depressed
I breathed my last the day the warning bell was knelling
I died on a day when there was a warning or alarm sounding
She smoothed her feathers down and flew out my window
The woman transformed back into a raven and left through the window
[Chorus: x3]
Refrain (repeated three times)
