What It Takes
Istra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Were there just some way
For fate
To pass me by tonight

This is what it takes
To save the world tonight
Now I know that I'm alone
Take this cup of nails from me tonight
No, they're mine
Cause I can see the lights grow dim
In this cold world
And all the candles burning out
The candle is burning out

This is what it takes all alone

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Istra's song "What It Takes" speak to the universal human desire for a way out, a way to avoid the cruel twists of fate that can upend our lives. The singer is pleading with whatever forces control destiny to spare them just this once, to pass them by tonight. However, they also realize that sometimes we must face these challenges alone. The phrase "this is what it takes" becomes a kind of mantra for the singer, a reminder that they have the strength to meet whatever challenge comes their way.

The theme of isolation and loneliness also emerges in these lyrics. The singer speaks of being alone, and seems to accept that there are some things that we must face without the support of others. The metaphor of the candles burning out serves as a kind of commentary on the impermanence and fragility of life. The world is a cold and difficult place, and even the most steadfast lights can be extinguished.

Overall, these lyrics speak to the human condition, the struggle to find meaning and purpose in a world that can seem indifferent and hostile. The singer is asking for a reprieve from this harsh reality, but also acknowledging that ultimately we must find the strength within ourselves to carry on.

The heart-shaped Istria peninsula in the north-west corner of Croatia offers unforgettable experiences like wineries, olive oil tastings, stunning Istria hilltop towns, history and activities such as paragliding, rock climbing and diving.

Thank you. This is one of the most beautiful parts of Croatia Croatia looks like a very beautiful country that has preserved its history and heritage. I like the Venetian architecture and all the palaces with town gates and arches. I like all the Renaissance and medieval buildings of the Croatian towns.

It's funny; I have known quite a few Croatians, and like a broken record, they all tell me, "Croatia most beautiful country in world." I thought they were just expressing healthy nationalism. So, I went there in 2018 and discovered that they're actually right. It's absolutely so beautiful that it takes you a while to wrap your head around seeing palm trees and the beach to the west and gorgeous white mountains on your right, within 10 minutes' drive of one another. I highly recommend a trip there. Go in September to miss the crowds. We're headed back in June to Budapest (amazing...unreal, even) and Croatia/Montenegro/Albania this June. If my family would leave the US, I would move there in a skinny minute.

My very favorite city in Croatia is Rovinj. Loved it there. I’ll be going to Piran, Slovenia later this year. It reminds me of Rovinj. Your videos are very well made!
