Eyes
Ivanov-Down Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Grandfather sung to me
The weeping woman spoke
Down beneath the trees is the wisdom of the old

I seen plenty of disrespect
For the knowledge of the land
It's my people who I see lost in other peoples hands
Everybody's hoping to see you at their door
Taking care of people you don't know

Staying inside in their homes whispering
To the dark eyes outside the door
To the dark eyes outside their door

No todo está perdido
Estoy con mi gente
Trabajo con miedo pero yo soy consciente

I'm losing the fear
'Cause the work it's here
Ojibwe and Yaquis hope is in our ways

We show our sanity
Nobody sees us but we are running things
The bats and the land are sacred beings
Oricas Lencas
Now we are the ones
Bringing and taking, caring for the others

Every morning I look out
From the corner of the mart
I'm just here waiting to help you
There can be no fear for us
When the people they come back
Like it used to be before
I want it better
Better than it was before

Everybody's hoping to see you at their door
Taking care of people you don't know

Staying inside in their homes whispering
To the dark eyes outside the door

To the dark eyes outside their door
To the dark eyes outside their door

Overall Meaning

The song "Eyes" by Ivanov-Down reflects on the importance of respecting the wisdom of the land and our ancestors. The first verse mentions how the personal experience of the songwriter's grandfather singing to them and listening to the weeping woman's stories have taught them about the importance of the wisdom of the old that is found beneath the trees. However, the songwriter also expresses their disappointment at seeing their own people lost in the hands of others and the disrespect shown towards the land's knowledge by some.

The second verse touches on the idea of community and unity, conveyed through the lyrics, "No todo está perdido, estoy con mi gente," which means "Not all is lost, I am with my people." The songwriter also acknowledges their own fear but asserts that they are conscious of their work and the importance of the Ojibwe and Yaquis indigenous ways. The chorus repeats the line, "Everybody's hoping to see you at their door, taking care of people you don't know," highlighting the idea that caring for others should be universal, with no prejudices towards strangers.

The final verse consists of an uplifting message of hope, noting that when people come together, there can be no fear. The songwriter mentions how they wait for others to help in the morning, stating that they want things to be better than before. The chorus repeats once more before the song ends.

@@trrrt2303 I'm not saying they HAVE TO listen to it, but if Ivanov Down's arguably best song has 6000 views (it now has 20000, thank God) and Miley Cyrus' random song has like a billion, there's clearly something wrong.
