I Never
J._Simpson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I never wanted to feel like this
I never thought you'd make mistakes like this
It never was that you
And now it's time you knew
I never ever, again will I trust you
I never wanted to be like this
I never thought you'd make mistakes like this
It never was that you
And now it's time you knew
I never ever again will I trust you

I'm tired of sittin' home waiting for the phone to ring
While you're out doing any and everything
And everybody sees how you're playing me
Calling me your girl

But I'm not gonna sit around and take this foolishness
You're acting like I can't see a man and take my pick
You better play it cool
Or this game you'll lose
I'm telling you the truth

So don't you try to tell me
You've been true to me
When I can plainly see
That in your heart you're still a cheat
And I know that you're lovesick
It's not happening
So don't you come to me
Thinking I'll believe 'cause
It won't work for me

I never wanted to feel like this
I never thought you'd make mistakes like this
It never was that you
And now it's time you knew
I never ever again will I trust you
I never wanted to be like this
I never thought you'd make mistakes like this
It never was that you
And now it's time you knew
I never ever again will I trust you

What makes you think I
Would sit here and be fool
If you think that it's true, you don't have a clue
I just could not believe
That you're playing me
Boy, what's wrong with you

Since you're the man
Thinking that you could play the game
I think I have to show you
That you don't mean a thing
I'm letting you go
So if you didn't know
I am in control

So don't you try to tell me
You've been true to me
When I can plainly see
That in your heart you're still a cheat
And I know that you're lovesick
It's not happening
So don't you come to me
Thinking I'll believe 'cause
It won't work for me

I never wanted to feel like this
I never thought you'd make mistakes like this
It never was that you
And now it's time you knew
I never ever again will I trust you
I never wanted to be like this
I never thought you'd make mistakes like this
It never was that you
And now it's time you knew
I never ever again will I trust you

I never wanted to feel like this
I never thought you'd make mistakes like this
It never was that you
And now it's time you knew
I never ever again will I trust you
I never wanted to be like this
I never thought you'd make mistakes like this
It never was that you
And now it's time you knew
I never ever again will I trust you

Baby did you think that
You could play me
Like I would never know
(Could you be so)
Shady
(Now you're gonna see)
You should never spend your
Time with me
'Cause there's no you and me
We can never be

I never wanted to feel like this
I never thought you'd make mistakes like this
It never was that you
And now it's time you knew
I never ever again will I trust you
I never wanted to be like this
I never thought you'd make mistakes like this
It never was that you
And now it's time you knew

I never ever again will I trust you
I never ever again will I trust you

Overall Meaning

The song "I Never" by J. Simpson is a powerful message from a woman to her unfaithful partner. The song starts with the singer stating that she never wanted to feel the way she does, and she never thought her partner would make the mistakes that he did. She then goes on to say that she will never trust him again. The chorus repeats this sentiment twice, emphasizing that she has lost all faith in him.

The second verse explains how the singer is tired of waiting for her partner to call her when he is out doing anything and everything. She knows that he is playing her and everyone sees it. She tells him that he better play it cool, or he will lose the game he is playing. The bridge reveals that the partner is trying to tell her that he has been true to her, but she can see through it. Ultimately, she takes charge of the situation, and she tells him that she is in control.

The song's message is clear: the singer has had enough of her partner's infidelity, and she no longer trusts him. She is taking control of her life and moving on without him. The strong lyrics and J. Simpson's emotive delivery make "I Never" a powerful song about heartbreak and the process of moving on.

I was 14 when the murders happened. OJ's NFL career was almost all before I was born, but I knew him from "The Naked Gun" movies and his NFL on NBC commentary. I thought he was a nice, likable guy, and the idea that he was capable of murdering anyone made me incredulous. Yet I was a precocious kid and into science, and I knew the DNA evidence was really damning.

So, as a teenager, I followed the trial as much as I possibly could. I remember being sick at home one day watching the opening arguments.

When it was over, I thought, "He probably did it, but I don't know if the prosecution proved it beyond a reasonable doubt. So I understand the verdict."

Looking back on it, I never fully grasped what was really going on with the jury. They didn't care whether he did it or not. They just wanted payback for the LAPD for Rodney King. I heard at least one juror admit this in "OJ: Made in America." Another juror apparently didn't understand the difference between DNA and conventional serology. (How could you not understand that after watching that trial?) Another juror admitted everyone had just checked out by the end.

Johnnie Cochran was the only lawyer who could have won that case, because there really was enough evidence to convict OJ several times over, and the conspiracy theories about it being planted don't hold up to the slightest scrutiny.

It never occurred to me then, despite going to a mostly black high school, that the racial division was that deep. I hung out with people from all backgrounds. It didn't matter because we all sang in the choir or had the same classes together.

Apparently the original vote in the jury room was 10-2. But the two white jurors just changed their votes to "not guilty" without any discussion. It was like they just felt the room and knew there was no point in discussing it. They all just wanted to go home.

OJ had it all. He was beloved everywhere during and after his NFL career. He had money. He had a beautiful family. But something snapped in him after he retired from football, and that culminated in the murders. He threw it all away because he could not control his anger and jealousy toward Nicole.

And then, years after walking out of the courtroom with his freedom, the dumbass decided to rob men at gunpoint to steal back his memorabilia that really belonged to the Goldmans anyway. What an idiot.

Dr. Bennet Omalu thinks OJ has CTE. He probably does, but we won't know until after he dies.
