Travelling
J.O.E.L Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Every night I wear the face
I picked up from an ad
Playing for the people who are told
What's good or bad
Playing cards and drink too hard
And smiling when I'm sad

Then I think about the life
That I could of had
Instead of choosing love
I went off with the travelling band

Nervous trips down motorways
In overloaded vans
Dressing rooms like icy tombs
And greasy frying pans,
Endless nights on endless flights
And aimless one night stands

Then I think about the life
That I could of had
Instead of choosing love
I went off with the travelling band

Scan the racks for new paperbacks
To while away the days
Check in rooms not fit for use
And wasting time away
Hotel phones and no-one home
But now all that has changed

When I think about the life
That I might have had
Had I chosen love and didn't go
With the travelling band
Now I think about the life that I finally have

When I chose love and I didn't go
With the Travelling band

Overall Meaning

The song "Travelling" by J.O.E.L reflects the life of an artist who ended up choosing a life on the road with a band over a stable life with a lover. In the first verse, the artist portrays himself wearing a mask that he picked up from an ad, playing music for audiences that prefer to be told what is good or bad. The line "Playing cards and drink too hard and smiling when I'm sad" represents the lifestyle that has been imposed on him, where he goes through the motions of performing and partying with people he doesn't truly connect with.

In the second verse, the artist describes the endless trips on the motorways in overloaded vans, and the dressing rooms that feel like icy tombs with greasy frying pans. These are the struggles that come with living on the road as an artist, being away from home and living in subpar conditions. The line "aimless one-night stands" is a reference to the loneliness that comes with constantly being on the move and not having a stable relationship.

The third verse shows the artist's longing for a stable life with love and the feeling of finally finding it. He mentions scanning racks for new paperbacks, a way to pass the time, and staying in hotel rooms that are not fit for use. Still, he expresses that there is a change in his life and he now has someone to come back to.

Overall, "Travelling" is a song about the choices one makes in life, and how those choices lead to different paths. It shows the struggles and sacrifices that come with choosing a life on the road as an artist, and the eventual yearning for stability and connection.

Alright, so the most complete version of Joel's meatball recipe we have so far to my knowledge:

Pork
Beef
Bread crumbs
Allspice
Black pepper
White pepper
Salt
Onions

Fry, use drippings with sour cream, black pepper, white pepper, beef bouillon (or stock), sour cream, half & half (optional) to make gravy

Serve on mashed potatoes, top with parsley, plate with lingonberry sauce and pickles

If I'm missing anything, please let me know.

New York is hilarious because its one of the only places in America where the Concept, Use, and Purpose of the car horn is completely changed.

Instead of being a Protection/Safety tool
It becomes a tool to tell others just how angry you really are.

But the thing is, Its America, Everyones Angry. not only that Its NYC traffic jam. so Everyones Honking.

So it Goes from
A tool for Safety, to
A tool to expressing anger, to
a LITTERAL STRESS BALL/TIME WASTER.

NYC is the only place you can hawk your horn more than 10 times within 3 seconds and no one will get angry cause they prob cant hear for shit anyways.
did you notice that any of the walking stereo types had extremely raised voices?

Given that we never actually see Joel and Vinny on-screen at the same time, there is still the possibility that they are the same person.

@LordEptar

The mystery deepens.

@KimeramonRocks

even if we did see them on the screen at the same time, it would have clearly been edited post op so it looks like its 2 different people but its really the same person filmed at different times

@LordEptar

@@KimeramonRocks IT'S ALL A CONSPIRACY! THEY'RE GONNA SHUT THE WHOLE THING DOWN! SAVE THIS VIDEO!

@meatmobile

We never see joel on screen at all so I'm not convinced he exists.

@KimeramonRocks

@@meatmobile im surprised that he even uploaded pictures of himself. he could have kept his appearance a total (pepperoni) secret outside that baby picture and shinobi picture. unlike vinny, we only have a couple pics of joel from ~9 years ago. most modern pic of him is from a japan trip 4 years ago

14:00 Joel you eat the glizzy to recover health, not for taste

@Chrisboy265

It’s what real Glizzy Gladiators do

@SlyHikari03

True

@sonicthehedgegod

i love the difference in how vinny and joel describe double down, like joel's afraid to go to the bathroom cuz he thinks he'll get stabbed whereas vinny is just like "ehh its like a fake dive bar."
