J. Black got his start as a musician, learning to play piano, trumpet and drums. This early exposure to three different instruments laid the groundwork for what would become Black’s signature approach to musical composition—one which could only be described as fearless. “I don’t feel confined in my music,” says Black. “I know there are some rules, but I’m not afraid to think outside that box.” There are certain boundaries I just don’t recognize.” Black will utilize a time signature typical of rock and hear a place for it in an urban context. He’ll bring funk to bear on R&B. He can write a hook for a stay-in-your-head pop song and then create lyrics of thought-provoking poetry. In example, his song titled “I Don’t Care” is where he paints a vivid picture of a broken relationship where the man is a victim of an untrue lover. “ We hear many songs about women being cheated on but, we don’t say a whole lot about it when it’s the other way around,” admits J.
J. Black’s singing career began in the Baptist church as a child where he was active as a musician, director, and vocalist. It was in these early years that he would develop his captivating performance ability and soulful vocal style. “I’ve always felt that if I aint movin the crowd I’m not doing my job,” says J.
The “Jeanyus Black’s” musical stylings and versatility show through in all of his works . Black notes R.Kelly as one of his top influences. “R. Kelly has crossed chart and music style barriers which is what I admire the most about him,” Black says. J has the desire, ability and vision to cross genre barriers like his predecessors.
Currently Black performs his music in various venues in and around the Sacramento area. His forth coming project titled “Once You Go Black” is scheduled for release in 2012.

And they light up with a brilliant glare
Page after page, after page, after page after page
A hollow vase only costs ten pounds
But an empty vessel makes the loudest sound
And you have to get heard in this loudest of towns
Or go under
We don't care if you can't pay,
We don't hear when you cry out
Our smiles are hollowed out
Let's talk about me
(Vamos a hablar de ti)
Let's talk about me
(Vamos a hablar de ti)
The people look like ghouls in the neon light
Get the big city blues every single night
World gone crazy? It was never sane- not now
Not ever
Bars full of couples not talking to each other
Seeking solitude in the company of others
"We're not in love- we just can't resist each other
At playtime
We don't care if you can't pay
We don't care what you've got to say
We don't hear when you cry out
Our smiles are hollowed out
Let's talk about me
(Vamos a hablar de mi)
Let's talk about me
(Vamos a hablar de ti)
Let's talk about me
(Vamos a hablar, hablar, hablar)
Let's talk about me
(solo)
We don't care if you can't pay
We don't care what you've got to say
We don't hear when you cry out
Our smiles are hollowed out
Let's talk about me
Let's talk about me
Oh, let's talk about me, me, me, me, me, me
Oh (Vamos a hablar de mi)
Let's talk about me
(Vamos a hablar, hablar
Vamos a hablar de mi
Vamos a hablar, hablar, hablar
Vamos a hablar de mi
Vamos a hablar de mi)
The song Let Me Know by J. Black is a commentary on the superficiality and self-absorption of modern society. The opening lines warn the listener about the dangers of the fashion industry, where tempers flare and people are judged based on their appearance. The chorus then highlights the theme of self-centeredness, as the singer declares that they only want to talk about themselves and refuse to listen to others. The verses continue to paint a picture of a society that is obsessed with appearances and material possessions, focused more on individual pleasure than genuine connection with others. The final line, "oh, let's talk about me, me, me, me, me, me", drives home the message that we have lost touch with each other and are only interested in our own gratification.
Overall, Let Me Know is a thought-provoking critique of the modern world and our obsession with superficiality and self-promotion.
