The Avengers
J. Dankworth Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This my avengers flow
Here protect the the stone
If this infinity wars
I got power and soul
Strange encounters
Gave me time grow
Green countered
Had to humble bro
Asking for snow white
I'm Not Bucky bro
I'm not the winter soldier
I want the possessions collector
So I'm like where are stones

On the same platform as happy and co
Ai ho ai ho so off to work we go

I'm talking Doc and the 6ix
More times sad in the bits
Ain't tryna be nostalgic
There's No safety being a kid
Now their caught up in the mix
Knee high tweaking with a ZK in his grip
For the fashion
Like its part of the drip
Like we ain't all blood
Tryna turn a man crip
Tryna turn a brother Muslim
Rain fire for the pigs

Only thing that makes me tick
Is that the aim is misguided
Like stark with no mask
You got to judge that shit

Rely on tech
So your the first to be chef'd
Light up tops with stick
Be my guest
Its all cap
If you pump up your chest
I told Thor, you should of aimed for head
That mistake cost you an arm and a leg
More like an eye for an eye
I'm steady watching the stars in the sky
Ain't got time for a Patek
Gone now I'm back again in a parsec
In an alien mech
Still in my string vest
Plotting my conquests
Contemplating what universe is next
I want stones in my gauntlet
Just to half the stress
One snap is all it would tek

Fly in light speed
Dance
Through the galaxies
When salvation finds me
The evil ones will flee

Fly in light speed
Dance
Through the galaxies

When salvation finds me
The evil ones will flee

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of J. Dankworth's The Avengers are a mixture of references to the Marvel Comics characters and a commentary on the state of society. The song opens with the line, "This my avengers flow, here to protect the stone," which is a reference to the Avengers' mission to safeguard the Infinity Stones. The rapper asserts that if the battle is against the forces of Thanos in Infinity War, he has the power and ingenuity to save the day. The lyrics later reference his growth as a person through "strange encounters" and "green countered" incidents that made him more humble.

The song then shifts to a commentary on the state of society, touching on issues such as drug addiction and racism. The reference to "Doc and the 6ix" could be a nod to Drake and his hometown of Toronto. The lyrics acknowledge the challenges of growing up in a society where being young and carefree is not always safe. The reference to "turning a man crip" and "turning a brother Muslim" serves as criticism to those who try to influence people's decisions to join gangs or convert to certain religions. The lyrics then go back to Marvel Comics' world, with references to Iron Man and Thor.

Overall, the song's message is that the struggle against evil forces is never-ending, but those who have the determination, strength, and focus to overcome such forces will eventually succeed.

@Darren79

The season three version of the Dankworth Avengers theme. He was asked to stay for the series going on to film and score each episode but he was so busy so Laurie Johnson was brought on to provide the music with his more well known theme.

@shibumi8

I haven't seen that show in years. It's always nice to hear the music in full force.

@lyntedrockley7295

This is so rarely heard. And NOW you can hear how Laurie Johnson adapted the motif we all know in his version from this! I never realised!

@thelasthvwarrior
