The Voice
J. Hayward Lyrics

Won't you take me back to school?
I need to learn the golden rule
Won't you lay it on the line?
I need to hear it just one more time

Oh, won't you tell me again?
Oh, can you feel it?
Oh, won't you tell me again tonight?

Each and every heart it seems,
Is bounded by a world of dreams
Each and every rising sun,
Is greeted by a lonely one

Oh, won't you tell me again?
Oh, can you feel it?
Oh, won't you tell me again tonight?

Cause out on the ocean of life my love
There a so many storms we must rise above
Can you hear the spirit calling, as it's carried across the waves?
You're already falling it's calling you back to face the music
And the song that is coming through
You're already falling the one that it's calling is you

My a promise take a vow
And trust your feelings it easy now
Understand The Voice within
And feel a change already beginning

Oh, won't you tell me again?
Oh, can you feel it?
Oh, won't you tell me again tonight? Tonight?

Oh, won't you tell me again?
Oh, can you feel it?
Oh, won't you tell me again tonight?

And how many words have I got to say?
And how many times will it be this way?
With your arms around the future and your back up against the past
You're already falling it's calling you on to face the music
And the song that is coming through
You're already falling the one that it's calling is you

Each and every heart it seems,
Is bounded by a world of dreams
Each and every rising sun,
Is greeted by, a lonely, lonely one

Won't you tell me again?

Oh, can you feel it?
Oh, won't you tell me again tonight?

Overall Meaning

The Voice by J. Hayward is a song about facing life challenges and following your intuition. The lyrics refer to a desire to go back to school and learn the golden rule, indicating a need for guidance and direction in life. The repeating chorus "Oh, won't you tell me again? Oh, can you feel it? Oh, won't you tell me again tonight?" reinforces this longing for guidance and the need to trust in one's own instincts.

The second verse speaks of the loneliness and isolation that can come with pursuing your dreams, with each day starting anew with a sense of struggle. The bridge of the song encourages listeners to hear the spirit calling and to face the music, meaning to face the challenges and obstacles while embracing the beauty of the journey. The final verse calls for a promise to take a vow and trust one's own feelings, encouraging the listener to be true to themselves and understand their inner voice.

Oh Lord have Mercy!

Bang a gong!
To get him to do more with this group would be beyond Heavenly.

Can someone who actually knows him GET THROUGH to him?
This is so much better than that scheiss back-up band, on solo tours. Sorry, but they are so shabby compared to the amazing Moodies.
Must be very difficult without a decent producer, to get things done.
We live in such a different world now.
Expenses and costs outweigh Quality and Beauty.
I clasp my pearls.

If Justin has put out a whole album reinventing his original songs, I'm in. This is excellent work.

Justin Hayward is still amazing.

Terry Fitzgerald

He hasn't lost his voice, unlike several of his contemporaries ( who shall remain unnamed out of respect )

That was fantastic... Justin Hayward is genius. The Moody Blues recording of this song from Every Good Boy Deserves favour was a favorite song for me from the first time I heard it when I was 8 years old. This new rendition holds true to the spirit of the original recording. I really enjoyed this very much.

Grand Daddy JR

This is by far the best arrangement of this track I have ever heard. OUTSTANDING!
