Growing up heavily exposed to blues, soul, classic rock, and rap, he has blended these styles and created his own original brand of urban music. And even though you won't hear him talking about guns, hustling, or 24's, his music is as real as it gets. Who else can melt a female and melt a mic at the SAME TIME? So don't get it twisted when you hear him sing a smooth chorus--because you can believe that a wicked flow is always nearby. It's a unique mix of styles that came natural to him when he started recording back at the age of 14.
"Back then it was just two tape recorders with a built-in mic," explains James. Since then he's rocked plenty of parties and talent shows, and sold hundreds of self-recorded cds.
And now, driven by his desire, his dream, and his following, he has released his debut studio album, THIN LINE. Collaborating with one of Pittsburgh's top producers, Chris "Mindbender" Longo, (who has worked with Lil' Flip, MC Eiht, Stat Quo, and currently CRAVE), this album will touch all demographics.
Call him an artist on the edge. Maybe even a bit moody. But he calls it like he sees it. J.James doesn't make the rules . . . he just walks along the thin line that we call life.
Don't Want You

Tryna talk to me and saying that you want me back
You need me back, and you shoulda never left me
There you go, talking that shit, same old shit
Don't wanna hear that shit, no
I remember when you had me, you treated me bad
You treated me bad
And you let it go (You let it go)
And now you wanna try to come back
But no, no no no
I will never take you back, no, no no no
It's funny how you tryna come back
No, ha ha
It's too late, I've moved on
And I don't want you back
(I don't want your love, I don't need your love)
I don't want your love, you can keep your love
'Cause someone else is living here, someone else is saying my name, baby
He's cooking me breakfast, wining, dinning, flowers for no reason
He's doing what he's supposed to do, uh
It could've been you
(You had a good thing) You had a good thing
And you let it go (You let it go)
And now you wanna try to come back
But no, now you wanna come back
I will never take you back,
I don't want you anymore, no no no
It's funny how you tryna come back
No, ha ha
But you did me wrong
It's too late, I moved on
And I don't want you back
I was so good to you,
I was so good to you
But it wasn't enough, and now I'm through with you, through with you, through with you
Ooh, you didn't appreciate me
Funny how you do now, but it's too late
It's too late, I moved on
And I don't want you back
No, no, no, no
(I'll never take you back, no no no)
(I'll never take you back, no no no)
And now you wanna try to come back
But no, no no no
I will never take you back, no, no no no
(It's funny how you try to come back)
It's funny how you try to come back to me
It's too late, I moved on
I don't want you back
Now you wanna try to come back but no
(You did me wrong, you did me wrong)
I will never take you back, no
I will never take you back, no, no no no
The lyrics of J. James's song "Don't Want You" revolve around a person who is trying to come back into their life after they left them. The singer gets a call at 2 o'clock in the morning from them, but they don't want to hear their words since they remind them of their past. They remember how this person treated them badly and left them, now they have moved on and found someone who is good to them. The chorus repeats the lines "you had a good thing, and you let it go" indicating that the person had a chance to be with them, but they didn't value it.
The second verse makes it clear that someone else is now in the singer's life, who is doing everything they should have done. They regret losing this person, but it's too late now. The bridge highlights how the singer was good to them but, in the end, it wasn't enough. They didn't appreciate them then, and now they are trying to come back to them, which they reject. The song's overall message is that once someone has moved on and found someone better, there is no way back since they don't want to be treated poorly again.
