Money? A chanc… Read Full Bio ↴What motivates a band to come back from a dormant career?
Money? A chance to reclaim the spotlight? Boredom?
Well for the band JAR it’s pretty simple.
“Unfinished business”
In 1998 the band JAR which included original and current members:Garth Allen and Rob Wade released a full-length independent album titled “KNOTT SKULL”
This album through radio/tv and movie soundtrack play, along with relentless touring garnered them the interest
of, among many others SONY records.
JAR. would take on the moniker FLYBANGER and release an album titled “Headtrip to Nowhere” with Columbia/Sony in 2001. And the “Outlived ep” on Gotham records via SONY in 2000.
FLYBANGER toured North America sharing the stage with artists such as Clutch, COC, Sepultura, Hatebreed, Soulfly, and NickelBack. FLYBANGER’S tour highlights also included festivals with Sevendust, Filter, Judas Priest, Tool, Finger Eleven, Machine Head and Cypress Hill.
The JAR. version of the song “Cavalry” can still be heard on commercial and Internet radio today and is still one of the top requested songs on Vancouver’s 99.3FM CFOX “90’s at Noon” program.
FLYBANGER disbanded in early 2002 .
In the years that followed Rob and Garth played in various music projects together and separately, Keeping busy in the local Vancouver music scene.
With Facebook and other social networks the fans of JAR had
been asking if there would ever be more music from them.
In the fall of 2010 Rob and Garth decided to put together a NEW JAR. band and do some shows
just for the hell of it.
They enlisted former ANNIHILATOR bassist Russ Bergquist And former KILL RHYTHM guitarist/Holly Mcnarland drummer Chris “Weasel” Gorst. Both are friends of Garth and Rob and played /play in other music projects with them at different times www.killrhythm.com www.thethickofitband.com
In other words it did not take long to muster-up some serious chemistry.
So what’s next?
Motivated by the success of the first couple shows. JAR. has since spent the better part of the last year in studio recording some of the music that had defined them as the band to watch for back in the day.
However, an unfortunate business situation forced the band to abandon an almost finished album. So rather than shut the show down and lose more valuable time. JAR acquired the recording services of Tim Neuhaus @ EarArt Music Studios. And Mike Plotnikoff (Buck Cherry/P.O.D./Hoobastank) to mix. The result is the re-recording of two signature JAR tracks: CAVALRY and PULL.
Present time: JAR has just uploaded the two songs on their social media sites and are hard at work in rehearsals. Jar had a live show you had to see. Now you won’t want to miss it!
This “Raging Musical Bulldozer” is on the move once again!!
Weapon
JAR. Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's a miracle we feel anything at all
Things we planted on the worst days of the year
Grew to fingers that rip at the joy
And set our backs against the wall
Lay your weapons down
Lay your weapons down
Hallelujah, we can finally see
How the bitterness was bruising on our skin
We didn't notice that grace had run so thin
Till we're falling apart and the cracks in our hearts let the truth sink in
The lyrics of JAR.'s "Weapon" are about letting go of bitterness, laying down our figurative weapons, and choosing to live a life of grace and love. The first verse talks about how even in the worst days of the year, we can find growth and joy amidst our pain. However, we often let our negative emotions consume us and forget that we have a choice in how we react to them. The repetition of "lay your weapons down" is a call to action- to let go of our anger and hurt and choose love instead.
The second verse goes deeper and talks about how bitterness can corrode our souls without us even realizing it. We become so consumed by it that we forget about the grace and love that is all around us. It's only when we start to fall apart and our hearts break open that we can see the truth- that we need to lay down our weapons and choose a different path.
Overall, the song is a message of hope and a reminder that we can always choose love over hate. We have the power to lay down our weapons and choose a different path, no matter what life throws our way.
