I just heard this on Spotify last week and I cannot get this out of my head. First, it stopped me as I reviewed the weeks new songs, which is always a precursor to finding a gem. I do this twice weekly to create a special weekly playlist for my monthly top 20 songs.
Every now and then I find a diamond amidst the not so listenable music. “Medicine” is one of those songs that will creep up on you and when you least expect it and infect you like a virus. Once infected though, every thought that coalesces with any lyric, will tear you unwillingly back to the song. JC has done this thing that sets him far above the rest of the pack.
He has composed a simple song with an addictive rhythmic beat with a vocal arraignment perfectly pitched to give you the licorice infused deadly venom of his lyrics. Like all great songwriters he does not let the beat slowdown. He makes you rise, and rise, and rise even higher to make you listen and rise to the heavens making the song a personal anthem that cannot be forgotten. He does this by not only bringing in a gospel like background musical crescendo, but by forcing you to listen very carefully to the lyrics because It forces you to endure the pain he feels in this song thereby forcing you to be attached verbally, and emotionally, to the song.
If this young artist can keep producing these seminal compositions, he is destined to again give another great “Sir” musical artist and composer from England.
