Story of My Cow
J Rice Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Written on these Signs
Are the Stories that make me Ashamed
I have some Regrets
And I don't like the Man I became
I know that In the morning you will look a little different than you do
A Little bit Darker, and a Little bit Smaller too
And you'll be gone, gone tonight
Tell myself that you're in Paradise
But in reality youre in Terrify
Don't worry it wont Hurt
The Story of My Cow
She stays at Home
Outside all night, While I keep Warm
Sometimes
Her milk is Frozen
Story of My Cow
I give her Wheat
She falls in Love
And then there's Three
Somehow
Story of My Cow
Written on these signs are the Menus I can't change
It breaks my Heart open to keep you here Trapped In a Cage
I know that in the Morning, you won't look the same as you do now
A Little Darker, but No longer a Cow
And youll be gone, gone Tonight
I tell myself that you're in Paradise
But In reality you're really Terrified
Don't worry it wont Hurt
The Story of My Cow
She stays at Home
Outside all night, while I keep Warm
Sometimes
Her milk is Frozen
Story of My Cow
I give her Wheat
She falls in Love
And then there's Three
Somehow
Story of My Cow
And I keep hoping for the Time
When you come back Home
Then all the Diamonds on my Plate
I see Im all Alone
The Story of My Cow
It taste so Good
You are my Friend, Now you're my Food
So Sad
My last Taste
The Story of My Cow
She stays at Home
Outside all night, while I keep Warm
Sometimes
Her milk is Frozen
The Story of My Cow
I give her Wheat
She falls in Love, and then there's Three
Somehow

Overall Meaning

The song 'Story of My Cow' by J Rice is a sorrowful, yet beautiful portrayal of the emotional struggles that the singer is going through. The lyrics refer to signs with stories that make him ashamed and having regrets, not liking the man he has become. He also speaks about a cow who stays outside in the cold while he remains warm inside. He feeds her wheat and she falls in love, and has calves. The song discusses how, despite being told that the cow is sent to paradise, he knows the truth - it is really a place of fear and pain. As the cow is taken away to be slaughtered, he realizes she was his only friend, and it is a sad, heartbreaking end.

In essence, the song can be interpreted as a commentary on the relationship between humans and animals, and the role of animals in providing food for humans. The singerโ€™s remorse and regret are fueled by the fact that he is aware that the cow who was his friend was treated poorly and ultimately killed for his sustenance.
