He is best-known for hits "Put It On Me", "Between Me And You", "Wonderful" and for being associated with Jay-Z as a part of The Murderers. Ja Rule has sold over 20 Million albums worldwide and has released six albums with one on the way. His best-selling albums are Pain Is Love and Rule 3:36. Ja Rule has beefed with rappers DMX, 50 Cent, The Game, Busta Rhymes, Dr. Dre, and Eminem.
Early life:
He attended Junior High School in Floral Park, New York, where he met his future wife Aisha Murray and they graduated in 1991. They attended Martin Van Buren High School together but he did not graduate. When Atkins was five years old, his sister died from respiratory problems. Growing up in a strict religious home, Atkin's family did not celebrate birthdays and Christmas, and as a child, was not allowed to listen to rap music. When he first heard it, he decided to be a rapper. He would sneak the music into his house and played it on his CD player when his mother wasn't around. Atkins is married to his high school sweetheart, Aisha Atkins née Murray. They have three children: Brittney (11), Jeffrey Junior (6) and Jordan (3).He and his family live in a mansion in New Jersey.
Rise to Fame:
At age 15, Atkins appeared with 0-1 and Chris Black as part of Cash Money Click. This would lead to him being signed by TVT Records in 1994. He would end up being heard by a young DJ who called himself DJ Irv, then later Irv Gotti. Gotti, was a friend of Jay-Z's and he was also a DJ for Def Jam Recordings. During the mid 90s his main priority was meeting Ja Rule. He wanted to sign Ja to his new label Murder Inc. Records. He wanted Ja because of his distinct deep voice. After Irv was able to sign Ja along with DMX and Jay-Z to Def Jam. He began to have an idea that they all work together. They formed a group named The Murderers. They recorded many songs together. Friction tore the group apart, DMX, a rapper that sounds very similar to Ja accused him of trying to steal his style with the deep voice, by saying that before the three were signed Ja tried to make his voice sound lighter but heard him embrace the deep voice and tried to imitate it. They had planned to release an album together, but this idea was scrapped and they all made appearances on their respective albums. Still, around this time, Ja Rule was still fairly unknown. Jay-Z, at the time a young star and new to Def Jam, was the most popular rapper in hip hop. Russell Simmons had the idea that in order to build hype around Ja Rule and capitalize on Jay's popularity that Ja Rule do a verse on Jay-Z's 1998 single Can I Get A..., which also featured Amil. Ja's performance of the verse made him a household name and he became an instant star and by the release of his album a year later he was one of Def Jam Recordings premier acts.

Please don't let me drown drown drown(Don't let me drown)
Please don't let me drown drown drown(I'm so cold)
Please don't let me
Please don't let me
Yes sir
They fought me
I'm going in the downer shape
Into the darker days
Please don't let me drown (drown)
All life was fatally
The burst of your judgment day
Please don't let me drown
(Don't let me, don't let me, don't let me, don't let me)
Drown drown drown
Lord let me take it both water like the French quarter
I'm so walker now
I'm overlooking the ocean
From the deck of the yacht the view's gorgeous
They have the shark in the waters
But is the few who's among us
nigga, they wanna bite like piranha
I overflow near DiCaprio
I'm top ten bigger than life the aura
If this ship sink nigga I'm gonna walk on water
Gigantic but Jesus I'm of the Christian manic
How do I manage? To be above average and not ever again
To be the one to dive in knowing I can't swim
For me to go under not breathing
I'm drowning
I'm going in the downer shape
Into the darker days
Please don't let me drown (drown)
All life was fatally
The burst of your judgment day
Please don't let me drown
(Don't let me, don't let me, don't let me, don't let me)
Pray for me 'cause I tested positive
For being the shit now niggas won't touch me
And I'm allergic to broke niggas, trust me
Independent, been in the blood since a young gun
So I'm thinking there ain't no cure for my illness
And the diagnose is just something I could live with
'Cause I'd have make it rain on bitches, storm on niggas
Cash flow like rivers (Please don't let me drown)
The drifting it wasn't enough for me
To be in the deepest of waters, to feel like I'm snorkeling
Off shore and this so reassuring
That I'm still sick, in need of a donor
'Cause I'm heartless, so I dive in
No life vest, knowing I can't swim
So if I go under and I'm breathing
Am I drowning?
I'm going in the downer shape
Into the darker days
Please don't let me drown (drown)
All life was fatally
The burst of your judgment day
Please don't let me drown
(Don't let me, don't let me, don't let me, don't let me)
This is the story of a girl (pray)
Who cried a river and drowned the whole world (they fought me)
I told her cry me a river, little mama don't give up
Daddy's here to deliver, the world is cold
So them tears you can tie them up
Just don't wanna let 'em running down your face
Baby the world is frozen
I told her if she shared it with me then it'd be ours
Like anything you maw
How can you give and drown?
Under water I can't hear a sound but I
See the rain dropping like tears from God am I
Mother's telling me that it's a sign of wealth
When I don't think the Lord is too fond of her
But there's gotta be a reason
I'm not drowning, right?
I'm going in the downer shape
Into the darker days (kill my lights in here baby)
Please don't let me drown (drown)
All life was fatally(it's black out now)
The burst of your judgment day
Please don't let me drown
(Don't let me, don't let me, don't let me, don't let me)
Please don't let me drown
(Don't let me, don't let me, don't let me, don't let me)
The song "Drown" by Ja Rule focuses on the theme of struggling to keep afloat and not lose oneself in the dark and harsh realities of life. The repeated plea of "Please don't let me drown" reflect the singer's fear of drowning in their pain and the hardships they face in life. The lyrics also discuss the vulnerability of fame and wealth, and how they can be isolating and leave one feeling alone and unsupported. The lyrics "I'm overlooking the ocean, from the deck of the yacht the view's gorgeous, they have the shark in the waters, but is the few who's among us" highlight how being at the top can attract dangerous people, and that even in the midst of luxury there can still be struggle.
The line "This is the story of a girl who cried a river and drowned the whole world" alludes to the famous Justin Timberlake song "Cry Me a River" and implies that the singer is asking for someone to cry with and for them, rather than just for themselves. The lyrics "I'm top ten bigger than life the aura, if this ship sink nigga I'm gonna walk on water" refer to the idea that even if they lose everything, they have such a strong sense of themselves that they will always find a way to rise above their circumstances.
Overall, the lyrics of "Drown" are a reflection on the struggle, pain, and strength that are an inherent part of the human experience.
