Jack Dark began with the release of a free ambient electronic EP named Soluna (2004). Next the synthclash Vagabond Neologist commercial LP (2005) was released. Shortly after that, the free experimental Z-Sides EP (2005) was released.

After the completion of those albums Jack began working full time on experimental virtual studio technology. He produced many popular VSTs via the freeware series DarkWare (2005), and later commercial VSTs under the brand NOVUZEIT (2006-7). However, Jack ceased VST production in 2007 to return to his musical ambitions.

Jack Dark used his now self created tools to produce the free Denizen EP (2008). Jack was unsure if he would continue writing music afterwards, but the album was met with glowing reviews which encouraged JD to work on a full length LP.

Two years later, a new LP entitled Darkness Catharsis was released in early 2010, further utilizing his personal software and deep personal introspection. Darkness Catharsis was originally going to be a commercial release, but Jack decided to release it for free due to being indecisive about continuing to produce under the "Jack Dark" name in the future.

1: I like the rough micarta and the badge but the blade is sloppy. It has old man walk and talk.
2: Yeah, nah. It has the style of a Khaki Safari suit.
3: I get a PTSD attack whenever I see a Case knife. Bad memories, man. Bad memories.

Honestly the reason why I haven't been watching many knife vids (not just you but Nick, Pete and metal complex) is because I don't have any friggin money to buy new gear. Inflation and taxes were rough this year. If knifetubers are seeing a downtick in views I suspect that's the reason. I've been watching budget oriented videos though.

There's nothing wrong with budget knives I mean I won't pay over a certain amount & I work full time. I carry a Leatherman Wave & use it at work as I'm in a factory type enviroment assembling & wiring the center console for Jaguar & Landrover cars here in the UK.
I guess the wave is as expensive I will go...I don't really need to pay more for better steel etc;

This point of view from a guy in the 70’s. I never liked crap banging around the bottom of my pockets. Early on when I remembered, I carried a folding knife, usually a Old Timer LB7. When pocket clips came out I was happy to carry a knife daily. I’ve tired of the constant hype regarding contemporary flippers. Now the circle is complete, just bought a Buck 110. @Janet Owens I imagine you’re right. I’ve got one and it’s pretty darn nice. Got it from collector knives. Haven’t had a single thing in stock since. Metal complex alerted a drop of Tom’s choice models at I think it was DLT. I called instantly when the drop happened. Nothing. I enjoy traditional and have a collection of Case knives and I have to admit GC‘s are a step above. Oh well I’ve got other things to consume all my time. Wish you the best. Most excellent video. Didn't feel like it was 25 minutes. The Swayback is one of my favorite patterns. Collecting them is a deep rabbit hole (or for that matter slipjoints in general).

Glad to see such high praise for Jack Wolf Knives. Ben knows a thing or 2 about good action (I'm envious of his GEC 15 Collection)

Very, very, very well done! I have two of the Laid Back, the GEC Viper and the Viper Viper and these are my favorites! I love the GEC for being unashamedly traditional and beautiful, the Viper from Italy is impeccable for the money and Ben’s knives are just on another level of quality! This is a great time to be a knife enthusiast!

GEC is the golden child everyone says to get but I can’t ever get my damn hands on one unless I wanna fork over 2 - 3x the original price. More expensive knife reviewers have artificially made it more desirable and you can’t get it unless you’re there the second it drops or you have connections. I don’t believe they’re worth that much, let alone Boker asking $150+ for their normal production knives. Great overview regardless AKBro.

Also worth noting about Case:

I advise getting them from a seller you can make specific requests to, like "hey make sure there's no gapping on mine when you send it," etc. They can be pretty hit and miss as of late. I have that same model of swayback and mine is pretty good, I don't think the QC is as bad on their Tony Bose models. But I still end up having to send back about 50-60% of all Cases I buy. Also, they always come sharp as a graham cracker out of the box. Just to keep in mind when buying!

@Jimmy Rustler yeah, they're not bad by any means. The few Cases I've actually kept are some of my favorites (and they do bone covers really well). I just resent needing to "fix" my knives as soon as they arrive, and I think people should know what to expect.

Yup, a couple of my Stockmans came with rounded off blade tips, and an uneven bevel on the sheepsfoot blade.

No other problems like gaps or blade play though, I've since fixed those issues and now I rotate them for pocket carry whittling knives. 👍

Got a bunch of Rough Ryders a few weeks ago, and the Half Hawk was one of them. Flushed the pivot with rubbing alcohol, reprofiled the blade, & it's my current fruit-slicer (yep, got more free time than love... except the love of a nice patina). The centering on mine is almost exactly the same as the one in this video. My only personal nitpicks with it are the crud in the general pivot area, even after flushing, & the scales looking & feeling like they were made of old tires. I'm not sure guys who're into traditionals have 'beaters', but I think this'd be a an option for the outliers.
Got a chortle out of the impression of the sinophobic post-and-runs... unfortunately I had a mouthful of no name onion rings at the time. Ergo, keep up the good work!

Love the traditionals videos. I tried to get a couple of Great Easterns from DLT. The elapsed time from me reading the email to attempted purchase was 3 minutes. Sold the eff out. This week I got an email with a count down to race for one of the gator themed knives. Decided against it at the last minute. Not my favorite design. I did see the #47 Pruner. That got my over excited. Saw the Ebay prices and that was deflating. 2016 make, never be made again, probs. Like that Elephant Toenail clipper, though. Maybe over pay for that. I don't know. Knives are cruel.

I like your humour and I have been a long time follower. I guess I have been watching the others more because they do edge retention testing, steel performance expectations vs their their real world use. How they like the ergos. I also feel they impart some knowledge often on sharpening experience on a new knife or knife steels. They also review new knives often, new locks, and things I might be interested in. If you check out Everyday Tactical Dad, his videos are great, too the point, but he also doesn't have many views. Probably because he has no shout outs to other channels and vice versa. I couldn't care less also, for Metal Complex, birdshot (constant movements and camera angle, ugh dizzying) and other channels that are so wordy and exaggerated

I own and love the RR halfhawk especially after some good hand finishing. I get so frustrated when posting in a forum and people call me stupid or call out traditionals as worthless because (What is this, the 1600s?) Or some other stupid comment. The (I don't like traditionals because they don't have a lock.) Crowd pisses me off and I always ask them if they are just a incompetent idget and trying to cut stuff with the back of the blade. Most haven't even given them a try.

Case are always a crapshoot. I've had good luck with their specials in terms of quality but for regular runs, I've had good, excellent and dog turd in terms of fit and finish/operation. The good ones are some of my favorites, super great actions and etc, but I don't think I'm getting any more unless I can touch them first.

You should try one of the vintage Victorinox alox knives with the old cross. It gives the similar feel to these. Old school cool. By the way, I use a lot of ad blockers for YouTube because I can't stand today's YouTube ads. Modern traditionals felt really uninspired as of late. I mean yeah you can't exactly reinvent the wheel but like there's other options than just slapping titanium, micarta, and a hard to sharpen steel. It's nice that Jack Wolfs atleast uses some admittedly pretty cool carbon fibers.

Yours are done to very high quality but they feel kinda muted. As in colorful.
I like titanium and Micarta and Carbon. I like the Satin finish. But I don't really like the muted colors. G10 with jigging or bicolor micarta/g10. Carbon with different color accents.
So yeah my only real problem is that they look cold (which is very subjective)

When it comes to carbon steel, it's really no big deal to touch up the edge of a brand new knife yourself. A polished, super razor sharp edge on a factory knife would only increase the price. And for those who PAY other men to sharpen their knives FOR them ( unless you're very old or weak ).......SHAME ON YOU. The beauty of good old fashioned carbon steel, is ya don't have to pack a lunch, spend over an hour ( or much more ), along with an expensive "sharpening system". Nope. With good old fashioned carbon steel, all ya have to do is STOP what you're doing the moment ya sense your razor edge is dulling, and strop the damned thing. Takes all of 30 seconds to do......and that's taking your sweet time. Your razor edge is right back, and your carbon blades will last a lifetime. When ya dull carbon steel enough that it needs a trip to the stone........you're drastically shortening the life of the blade, because sharpening REMOVES STEEL. I'm 60 yrs old, and I've NEVER seen a factory traditional folder that came "plenty sharp enough" right out of the box. Again: this goes back to keeping production costs down. Look what "professional knife sharpeners" charge to sharpen a single large carbon steel blade of the average traditional folder. From $15 to $20 bucks. ( Now add in shipping both ways. It's ridiculous. Millions of WOMEN back in the day knew how to sharpen carbon steel, for crying out loud. ) Now think about owning & running a company like GEC.......and the added time & labor costs to "make it as sharp as possible". There is absolutely nothing wrong with a GEC knife. Just take a few moments to sharpen the damned thing. After that, you'd be surprised how well denim jeans stretched tight across your thigh can strop a carbon blade.......providing you strop it SOON ENOUGH. World renowned custom knife maker Jay Fisher said it best: When it comes to "edge retention", there's always a trade-off........because the longer a blade steel can hold it's edge, the longer it'll take to sharpen it when dull......end quote. AND YA CAN'T STROP ANY STEEL OTHER THAN GOOD OLD FASHIONED CARBON. Rant over, LOL.

The place I work for used to share a parking lot with Cold Steel. They kept the pig gallows on top of the dumpsters and sold us knives at cost. Then their shop was bought by some boat perverts. Now I'm too broke to have hobbies.

Traditional are cool but if it doesn’t have ram’s horn, burnt stag, or some extinct wood covers I’m kinda bored. I am considering a dreary drive to the GEC store to buy up some S’s though. I did consider overpaying for a 65 model too.
