Oh What A Thrill
Jack Denny And His Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a bright golden haze on the meadow,
There's a bright golden haze on the meadow,
The corn is as high as an elephants eye,
An' it looks like it's climbing clear up in the sky.

Oh, what a beautiful mornin',
Oh, what a beautiful day.
I got a beautiful feelin'
Ev'erything's goin' my way.

All the cattle are standin' like statues,
All the cattle are standin' like statues,
They don't turn their heads as they see me ride by,
But a little brown mav'rick is winkin' her eye.

Oh, what a beautiful mornin',
Oh, what a beautiful day.
I got a beautiful feelin'
Ev'erything's goin' my way.

All the sounds of the earth are like music
All the sounds of the earth are like music
The breeze is so busy it don't miss a tree
And an old weepin' willer is laughin' at me

Oh, what a beautiful mornin',
Oh, what a beautiful day.

I got a beautiful feelin'
Ev'erything's goin' my way.

Wonderful arrangement - particularly like the sax section work right after 2:05. Previous comments are right that this tempo suits the number well.

This is in a class of it's own, I can listen over and over again . What a shame the younger generation don't realize what there missing.Thank you so much for sharing.

2:32 Interesting to hear a reedy, Johnny Dodds-style clarinet solo on a straight dance record from this period.

Ben Selvin covered this tune as well, but this is the tempo for it.

The Victor discography shows the vocalist as "ROD" May, but this may be a typo.  What a scene Montreal must have been during those Prohibition years!  The Mount Royal still stands, but no longer as an up-scale hotel.

Thanks a lot, Martin, for the info. I found that Rodney F. May was born  in Fitchburg, Mass. (1909-1978) Rod was apparently with Jack Denny for quite awhile. He was also solo on Boston radio (WBZ-WEEI) in 1932-1933. He later became a music teacher in the Boston area.
